Position: Project Officer*

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. The employment location will be Dedza, Malawi. The position is paid according to paygrade.
The WASH Project Officer, in close coordination with the Project Coordinator, will be responsible for overseeing project implementation including work-plan performance, participating in project planning, budgeting, monitoring, reporting and programme development in project sites. The PO will coordinate with the project team members and other WHH projects for coherence. The PO will conduct capacity building trainings for communities, local authorities and partners. The project will be implemenetd in Dedza District and has a strong focus on WASH Systems Strengthening and innovative technologies.
Ensure proper field management in the impact area of WHH’s Water and Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) Project in Dedza District.
Work with government institutions, relevant partners and stakeholders at district and community level ensuring good coordination and enabling environment for the project to operate in.
Represent WHH in all sectoral district level meetings, which are relevant for the projects’ implementation.
Assist in planning, organizing and facilitating trainings, workshops and meetings for WHH staff, district and community stakeholders including extension workers in the project’s impact area.
Reviewing project progress, achievements, challenges and lessons learnt on a monthly basis and maintain accurate records (documentation) of all project activities.
Compilation and timely submission of activity work plans, activity reports as well as monthly, quarterly and annual project reports to Project Coordinator (PC).
Conduct regular review meetings and compile plans with the Dedza project team making sure that there are no overlaps.
Oversee field office operations and ensure resources are used effectively.
Train and monitor water and sanitation committees regarding O&M and administration
Supervise and evaluate project activities of water monitors and technicians
Conduct water quality analysis and reporting
Support planning and implementation of WASH Systems Strengthening and related activities
Supervise the rehabilitation and new construction of boreholes, hand pumps, remote monitoring devices, etc.
Supervise all other construction activities in close collaboration with the project’s site supervisors
Train, sensitize and conduct community mobilization
Identify and ensure implementation of appropriate technologies in the respective community context
Support the design, dissemination and use of training booklets in target committees
Any other duties assigned by the Country Director, Head of Project or Project Coordinator.
- Bachelors degree in the field of WASH, agriculture, livelihoods, natural resources management or related field with minimum of 3 years of working experience.
- Excellent training facilitation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of the rural WASH sector context in Malawi.
- Very good knowlegde of WASH and Food Systems Strengthening approaches.
- Very good knowledeg of participatory methods.
- Experience in working in the NGO sector in Malawi.
- Proven experience in report writing.
- Very good English language skills (Spoken and written).
- Fluency in Chichewa is a must, other languages spoken in Malawi are an added advantage.
- Proven problem solving and organizational skills, flexibility and calm under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize and keep deadlines
- Valid driver's license (Cars and motorbikes).
