Job Description

Background

The National Registration Bureau (NRB) is a Government Department under the Ministry of Homeland Security. Through the National Registration Act (2010), NRB is mandated to implement, coordinate, manage and maintain the National Registration and Identification System (NRIS) in Malawi. NRB has the following deliverables: Birth Certificates; National Identity Cards for bonafide Malawians; Identity Cards for foreigners; Certificate of Registration of Marriage and Death Certificates.

National Registration Bureau with support from Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to fill the following vacant positions under the project Title: Scaling up and Improving Quality of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Malawi Through the National Registration Bureau under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

Position: Verbal Autopsy Evaluation Assistant.

Reporting to the District VA Coordinator, the job holder will be responsible for engaging village chiefs, clerks, religious leaders, volunteers and general community members in implementation of mandatory death registration and collecting complete, accurate and timely mortality surveillance data through administration of verbal autopsy among other things. The successful candidate will be offered a one year contract, renewable based on performance and availability of funding. The positions are tenable in Blantyre and Mchinji.

Desired Qualifications Skills and Competencies.

  • Diploma in Social Science, Social Work, Community Development or Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years research or development experience, in a busy setting, especially in community engagement and data collection.
  • Computer literate with experience in utilizing electronic data capturing methods, Microsoft office, and internet application systems.
  • A clean motorcycle riding license.
  • Ability to properly work within a diverse team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adhere to good clinical practice.
  • Trustworthy and accountable on project assets and supplies.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain good relationships with communities, colleagues and partners.
  • Good facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Mature, with a good sense of confidentiality and judgement.
  • Respectful to local ethics.

Post entry training:

Specific job related training will be provided for each position through in-house training, to familiarize / enable the incumbent to perform his/her duties in accordance with procedures of NRB and its donors.
