Job Description

Exploits University (EU) is amongst the top, oldest, and well experienced private institutions of higher learning in Malawi. It was officially opened in 2010, but has over the years’ successfully undergone transformation towards leadership in the higher education subsector. To date, the university is duly Registered and Accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

It is headquartered in Lilongwe, and has campuses in Lilongwe, Blantyre; and plans to extend its presence to Mzuzu in the Northern Region. EU is offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various fields.

EU would like to engage a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill the position of University Registrar. This is a highly demanding position that requires a higher education administrator with demonstrable capacity to initiate administrative and managerial innovations geared towards making the university vibrant.

 
  • Position: University Registrar.

    The University Registrar will be reporting to the President, and will be the Chief Administrative Officer of the University. Most importantly, he or she provides managerial and administrative leadership to the University, focusing on policy interpretation, human resource management, general administration, staff and students’ welfare and coordination of academic affairs.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

    • Providing managerial and administrative advice and support to the President, Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments.
    • Interpreting EU policies and policy guidelines and overseeing their implementation.
    • Handling administrative and human resources management activities such as maintenance of staff establishments; development and induction of new staff.
    • Managing the University’s management system, performance management processes; staff welfare; staff discipline and industrial relations.
    • Coordinating staff development matters conjunction with the President.
    • Performing administrative functions relating to academic matters such as admission and registration of students; keeping and updating students’ records; preparing student’s transcripts and academic awards; facilitating production of various statistics on student matters preparing teaching time tables in cooperation with Deans and Students Discipline.
    • Keeping and maintaining a register of staff members of the University.
    • Keeping custody of the Common Seal of the Council.
    • Dealing with internal and external correspondence.
    • Acting as a contact persons between the Legal Counsel and the University on all legal matters

    involving the University.
    • Coordinating all University ceremonies.
    • Acting as Secretary to the Council, Senate and other relevant committees and ensuring that all

    committee meetings take place and their proper records are kept.
    • Acting as the Spokespersons for the University.
    • Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Constitution, statues and Board or as delegate by the President from time to time.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicants should possess at least a Master’s Degree in either Public Administration; Business

    Administration; Human Resources Management or any relevant field. Applicants should have not less than five (5) years’ experience at Senior Management level in an institution of higher learning. Those with PhD in the above will have an added advantage.

    The ideal candidate for the position must:

  • • Have a proven track record of managing strategic issues of institutions of higher learning
    • Have a proven superior leadership and high level management skills.
    • Have sound understanding of relevant legal instruments regulating institutions of higher learning in general and functions of the position in particular.
    • Have a good leadership and team building skills.
    • Be results oriented.
    • Be decisive, self-motivated and assertive.
    • Have excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to deal with a diverse work force.
    • Be of high integrity.
    • Have excellent negotiating and analytical skills.

    TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

    EU shall provide and attractive salary and fringe benefits to the successful candidate in accordance with its emolument structure. The appointment is for a period of (3) years, renewable based on performance and mutual agreement.
