Job Description


The Paediatrics and Child Health Association (PACHA) is a non-profit making organization that advances and improves children’s health and welfare with the mission of ensuring that all the children have access to their determinants of health, in Malawi and beyond. Our members include healthcare professionals and other child health and welfare advocates. PACHA has been working in Malawi since 2011.


With funding from UNICEF, PACHA in partnership with the Ministry of Health is implementing the research study called PONEO Research Study in Dedza.

, therefore, seeks to engage the services of the well experienced, highly motivated and suitably qualified persons of Malawi origin to fill the position of Temporary Research Assistant and Temporary Data Entry Officer tenable at Dedza District Hospital and Project Manager tenable at PACHA offices in Blantyre. The initial contract is for five months with possibility of further extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Position: Temporary Neonatal Project Manager

Post summary

To provide leadership and coordination to ensure the implementation and accomplishment of the project objectives, in line with the project document as well as PACHA principles and approaches, are met. The position holder shall be reporting to the Project Leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and implementation of project activities
  • Work closely with the PACHA team to ensure that all objectives outlined in the work plan are met.
  • Arrange quarterly mentoring, audits and supervisory visits to each facility.
  • Support local teams to carry out quality improvement activities including death audit cycles by attending audits meetings in the districts
  • Supervise and coordinate the mentorship of staff SNCUs and ensure that learning objectives are met and complete an end of mentorship process
  • Regularly review progress with the project lead against work plans and adjust targets, strategies, resources and delegation of responsibilities to ensure that targets are met on time.
  • Plan and conduct quarterly and annual programme review meeting to assess progress, adjust plans, and reflect on lessons learned
  • Establish positive working relationship with implementing partners
  • Maintain ongoing communication with relevant district government offices and authorities regarding project progress and challenges
  • Monitor project expenditure, ensuring this is within budget, and that the programme is being delivered in a cost-effective manner
  • Prepare procurement plans and monitor procurement processes
  • Identify capacity needs of project implementing staffs and provide technical support, mentoring, and capacity building as needed

Required Qualifications, Skill and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Public Health, Clinical Care, Nursing
    or any other related field
  • Experience and training in Neonatal Care, Midwifery and tools used in this field is essential
  • Being a trainer or supervisor in Neonatal care and care for young infants, helping babies breath, and essential newborn care is desirable but not essential
  • Additional training in HIV/AIDS is desirable
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a management role of health related development programmes
  • A proven record of effective project management, including planning and managing the budget
  • Understanding of gender equality and mainstreaming gender into all programme activities
  • Ability to work as a team, be flexible and work well under peressure in a fast-paced environment
