Job Description

The NGO Board is mandated by NGO Act 2001 to promote public confidence in the NGO sector and ensure that NGOs operate for public benefit purposes. The scheme of the Law is that high public confidence triggers more support including donations to the NGO sector.

The Board has gained its visibility on the public domain evidenced by increased number of enquires and complaints lodged by citizenry regarding operations of NGOs. In order to timely capture and address the enquiries and concerns the Board has created a position of Support Services Officer. The position is for a fixed term of twelve months non-renewable.

Position: Support Services Officer

Applications are therefore invited from suitably experienced persons to fill the above-mentioned vacant post tenable in Lilongwe. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the successful candidate will be required to perform the following duties and functions:

  • Receiving and responding to issues presented either to NGO Board, Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare and any other Government agency regarding any matter on the operations of NGOs.
  • Manage the helpline desk on citizenry enquiry, provide information, guidance and advice on the operations of NGOs.
  • Monitor incoming complaints and status to ensure high-risk complaints are escalated and be dealt with expeditiously
  • Promote effective collaboration with key directorates in Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure timely resolution of issues or complaints so that there are no any delays in attending to enquiries.
  • Linking potential NGO registration applicants to relevant authorities including Registrar General, Ministries, Departments and Agencies on issuance of letter of agreement/MoUs a pre-requite to registering an NGO.
  • Identify complaints and public feedback trends.
  • Provide detailed summary of issues and bring them to the attention of appropriate authorities.
  • Assist the public on how to lodge a complaint and access timely feedback on the operations of NGOs.


  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Business Communication, Community Development or Social Sciences
  • Must be at least 30 to 45 years of age able to work independently with little or minimum supervision
  • Must be computer literate with excellent public communication skills
  • Those with above 7-year experience in NGO work will have an added advantage.
