Social Work Field Placements Coordinator

Job Description


The University of Malawi (UNIMA) in collaboration with Magomero College and the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare (MoGCDSW) is implementing a USAID supported project entitled: “Strengthening Social Welfare Workforce through in-service and pre-service training support,” with Cooperative Agreement Number: 72061221CA00003. The aim of the project is to increase the production of highly trained social workers that will strengthen the child protection work force in Malawi.

Applications are therefore invited for the post of Placement Coordinator with adequate knowledge of the field placement objectives and procedures.


  • The candidate should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences with credit obtained from a recognized and accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants with prior Practice Education will have an added advantage.

His or her duties will include:

  • Identifying agencies for student field placements.
  • Coordinating student allocation to different agencies for placements.
  • Coordinating submission of reports from agencies and students to the training institutions.
  • Acting as a link between the agencies and the teaching institutions during field placement exercises.
  • Coordinating training of Practice Educators and Agency Supervisors.
  • Coordinating Practice Educators in relation to their roles and relationship with training institutions.
  • Coordinating supervision exercises for students during field placements.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator.
