Position: Social and Behavioural Change Communication Specialist

DAPP Malawi is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for a position as a   Social and Behavioural Change Communication Specialist for an upcoming USAID funded project   aiming at reducing morbidity and mortality due to malaria in Malawi.

This position is contingent upon the award from USAID.

 Job summary/ responsibilities:

 The Social and Behavioural Change Communication Specialist will provide technical direction to define SBCC approaches and activities in the project. Provide technical assistance and quality assurance for the development of messages, methods and tools to effectively promote community-based behaviour change to reducing morbidity and mortality due to malaria in Malawi.

Key Performance Areas

  • Take leadership in coordinating the planning, implementation and reporting of the malaria intervention SBCC strategy in the targeted districts
  • Guide the project to plan and implement BCC in operational areas and conduct regular support visits to offer technical backstopping for effectiveness of district level SBCC interventions
  • Build the technical capacity of the project staff to carry out effective local level SBCC using proven approaches; work with district health partners to conduct capacity building trainings, mentoring and coaching for performance.
  • Identify and support documentation of best practices, and use them to profile the impact of local level BCC, promote learning and lesson sharing.
  • Support the design, implementation of the BCC monitoring and evaluation process including data use to inform program changes, data collection oversight and build the capacity of staff in BCC M&E.
  • Work closely with MOH Malaria Technical working group and feed new communication initiatives into the project implementation plan.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum qualification of diploma and preferable degree  in Communications, Marketing, Social or Behavioural Sciences, Public Relations, Public Health, or related fields
  • At least 5 years of SBCC-specific experience in community mobilisation and in designing, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SBCC strategies and materials as well as related training;
  • Experienced in pre-testing and concept testing SBCC approaches and content;
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient writing and verbal communication skills;
  • Relevant Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Office
  • Excellent Stakeholder engagement and management
  • Should have prior experience with data driven decision making for BCC
