Job Description

Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is the country’s leading producer of raw and refined sugar as well as specialty sugar. It employs more than 9000 permanent and seasonal employees in a year at its corporate office in Limbe and operation sites at Dwangwa and Nchalo.  Illovo Sugar (Malawi) Plc is part of Illovo Sugar Africa Group, operating in 6 countries in Africa, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods Plc (ABF), a diversified international food, ingredients and retail group operating in 48 countries.


Position: SHERQ Officer

Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of SHERQ Officer based at Dwangwa Estate. The incumbent will be reporting to SHERQ Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Environmental Science and Technology with bias towards quality and food safety or any related field.
  • Candidates with qualifications in Safety (Samtrac/Nebosh/NOSA) or Quality Management or related areas will have an added advantage
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an operational environment (Factory/Agriculture), working in a health and safety role
  • Candidates must have working knowledge of relevant ISO standards – 9000/22000 and Malawi Occupational Safety Health and Welfare Act legislation

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

 

  • Implement the Illovo way of SHERQ performance and related standards, systems, processes and applicable legislative requirements and promote SHERQ culture and awareness
  • Support the functional area to effectively implement, comply with and monitor SHERQ standards and processes, through coaching, guidance and communication with all relevant stakeholders
  • Promote a culture of continuous SHERQ improvement and adherence
  • Facilitate SHERQ investigations and coordinate the verification of close-out actions
  • Conduct inspections and internal audits to oversee and ensure the adherence to legislative and Illovo Integrated Risk Management System (IIRMS) requirements
  • Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
