Job Description

The College of Medicine (CoM) was established in 1991 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Its mission is to be an academic centre of excellence in the training of doctors and other health professionals in clinical service and medical research, responsive to the health needs of Malawi and its neighbours within the Southern African region. In pursuit of the mission, the CoM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacancies:


Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Toxicology and Medical Chemistry- (Blantyre-several posts) (Re-advertised)


Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Department, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake teaching, research, administrative and community engagement work.

The Assistant Lecturer post is a training position within the academic ranks of the University aimed at staff capacity development. This post is reserved for Malawian nationals and will be offered a 2-year renewable contract. The Assistant Lecturer will be employed on an established post upon attainment of relevant postgraduate qualifications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out academic research;
  • Supervise students’ practical and research projects;
  • Be part of academic consultants within the broader areas of the department;
  • Participate in outreach activities;
  • Contribute to the teaching at all levels within the Department.


  • Applicants at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level must be holders of a Masters or Doctorate Degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences or any relevant qualification with a minimum of two years teaching experience at a recognized University or an equivalent institution.
  • Those seeking the Senior Lecturer levels must provide evidence of their research experience as well as appropriate number of publications (either books or articles in refereed journals).
  • Applicants at Assistant lecturer level should have obtained a minimum of a credit or lower second class score in Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree upper second class or above, or its equivalent from a recognized and reputable institution.
