Position: SENIOR GRANT ACCOUNTANT - GLOBAL FUND (Grade 15) – 1 Position- Based at National Office



Purpose of the position


The Senior Grant Accountant shall oversee the general accounting operations for the Global Fund project by controlling and verifying the grant financial transactions. The position is responsible for reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and supporting the month-end close procedures.


Major Responsibilities


Oversee processing of payments

  • Ensure accuracy of accounting records by reviewing and posting accounting entries prepared by FOs for assets and liability accounts.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by reviewing accounting documents before recommending for payment.
  • Maintains accounting controls by enforcing and recommending changes to policies and procedures

Cash Management
  • Prepare GF cash flow forecasts and disbursement requests.
  • Ensure the target low is maintained by reviewing daily cash balances and keeping optimum cash flow for NO priorities for the month.

Ledger Management and control
  • Review all journals prepared by Accounts staff for accuracy and completeness.
  • Track and ensure accurate, complete and timely submission of statutory payments o relevant bodies/institutions monthly.

Risk & Audit Management support
  • Facilitate Audits by developing audit schedules and providing necessary documents and information
  • Maintaining custody and security of all finance documentation according to WVI standards and 
donor policies.


Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting
  • Experience managing statutory and donor audits
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in the NGO sector dealing with multiple donor funds and meeting different donor reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated high proficiency levels of computerized accounting systems preferably SunSystems.
  • Demonstrated skill in financial analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing or verbally, with excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to create and maintain finance systems and filing.
  • Able to prioritize own and others work to meet tight work deadlines.
  • Certified Chartered Accountant : Member of ICAM, ACCA or CPA or CMA
  • Excellent Computer skills
  • Experience in using Sun systems accounting package
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience in managing donor relationships/financial reporting
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and public
