Position: Schools’ Bursar (Finance Manager) 



Salary:

Location: Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Campus, Chilomoni, Blantyre.


Accountable to: 
The Education Director


Responsible for: 
Ensuring all financial and accounting systems are in place, are well managed, comply with the law and that Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Campus fulfils its financial reporting obligations
to the directors, its donors, and the government.


Start Date: 
1st November 2021


We are looking for a Schools’ Bursar of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Campus. The schools are situated on the site currently occupied by the Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise. The schools are set to grow rapidly over the next five years. We need a competent, capable bursar to manage the finances & HR of all the schools of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Campus through this expansion … and beyond.



Key Responsibilities:
 You will be accountable for the day-to-day management and strategic direction of the finances of the schools – under the direction of the Education Director and Chair of the Governors. Additionally, you will provide HR administrative support to the school. You will play an active part in supporting and practising the Catholic faith within the Mary Queen of Peace Campus.



Leadership and Strategic responsibilities

  • You will be part of the Schools’ Senior Management Team (SMT).
  • As such, you will present regular financial reports to the SMT and at Board of Governor meetings.
  • You will be the line manager for Finance team members along with Administration and HR staff.



Financial Management: You will –

  • Prepare annual estimates of income and expenditure and submit budgets for approval.
  • Monitor accounts against budgets.
  • Ensure that debts are recovered.
  • Manage the relationship with the school auditors
  • Report immediately any exceptional problems.


General Management: You will –

  • Actively manage the cash flows and resources of the school to optimise the use o ffunds and provide monthly cash flow updates and regular forecasts.
  • Manage, monitor and disburse Bursary and Scholarship funds in line with instructions from the Bursary Committee. Participate in the Schools’ Bursary Committee meetings.
  • Act as an ambassador of the Schools and the Catholic Faith.

Education / Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Accounting plus 5 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in human resources administration will be an advantage.
  • Experience in education where the focus has been in finance and administration will be an advantage.
