Job Description

Blantyre Baptist Academy (BBA) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced  individuals to fill the position of School Principal. This is a senior position reserved for a highly  ambitious, progressive and inspirational team leader. 

About Blantyre Baptist Academy 

Blantyre Baptist Academy is a private co-educational school situated in Nancholi, Blantyre and caters  for both boarders and day scholars. It offers high quality education in both International General  Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the local Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) curricula. BBA aims to produce leaders in all areas of life. The curriculum is therefore  reviewed and enriched so that BBA produces all-rounders who make their way through life marked  by excellence. 



Position: School Principal



Position Summary 

The Principal will serve as the chief administrator of BBA in developing and implementing policies,  programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development  of each student and the professional development of each staff member.  



Primary Duties and Key Responsibilities 

The Principal’s primary duties and key responsibilities will include: 

Operational and Administrative Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the School Board to plan development strategies and goals. 
  • Propose policies or policy changes and ensure that the policies of the Board are consistently  implemented. 
  • Directly supervise the Deputy Principal and other staff in line with the organizational chart. Work with the School management to prepare and manage the annual budget. Oversee the operations, curriculum, finance and marketing functions of BBA. Ensure compliance with Civic and Government regulations regarding education, health and  safety. 
  • Oversee the planning and communication of all school wide events. 
  • Provide monthly summary reports to the Board informing members of all relevant issues and/or  activities. 
  • Oversee the hiring, training and managing of all staff including the execution of staff  evaluations and recognition. 
  • Communicate to all parents to ensure understanding of all school policies and programs. 

Instructional Leadership and Development Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote excellence, equality and high expectations for all students. 
  • Be accountable for deploying resources to achieve the BBA’s aims. 
  • Build and maintain a positive image for the institution within the community and BBA.
  • Provide for the development of the classical, Christian model and the training of teachers to  integrate the classical and Christian methods and objectives into their teaching.
  • Oversee operations of the curriculum committee. 
  • Lead the evaluation of the academic curriculum so that it reflects the Christian and classical  priorities of the school. 
  • Stay up-to-date on latest political and educational issues affecting the school.
  • Encourage growth of BBA through in-service opportunities and continued education.
  • Represent the Academy at any fora or associations with common interests.

Excellent Communication Skills 

  • Written and oral communication skills are an essential quality in order to be able to  effectively communicate with the Board, students, staff members, parents and other stakeholders.

Confidence 
  • Ability to make decisions on behalf of the Board with confidence and assertiveness. 

Christian Faith 
  • Must be a committed, practicing Christian and of sober habits. 

Leadership Skills 

  • To enable him/her to delegate and oversee the operations of BBA effectively. These  qualities include emotional intelligence; self-awareness and self-regulation.


Approach to Education 

  • Must support the classical, Christian, community approach to education as described in the  school’s foundational books. 

Business Understanding 

  • Should immerse him/herself in the operations of BBA and have a macro view of the  numbers and drivers that define the institution’s success. 

Integrity and Ethical Standards 

  • A strong will which ensures that one is always doing the right thing by upholding the ethical  and professional standards and is honest in all operations to promote and implement the  mission and policies of BBA. 


Qualifications and Experience 

The ideal candidate should have the following minimum qualifications and level of experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized university. Those with  Master’s degree will have an added advantage. 
  • 10 years’ teaching experience, at least 5 years of which should be at school management level. 
  • Has experience in administration and management and is able to think strategically and meet  deadlines. 
  • Demonstrates organization, diplomacy, academic expertise, articulate speech, spiritual  discipline and prayerfulness. 
  • A mature individual, comfortable to speak to all levels including the leadership team, board of  directors and the broader organization.
