Job Description

The Health Economics and Policy Unit (HEPU), Department of Health Systems and Policy in the school of Public HEALTH and Family Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Malawi is implementing Thanzi La Onse Project has been awarded the RCUK Collective Fund Growing Capability Award titled: GCRF Thanzi La Onse (Health of ALL) in collaboration with project partners in UK, Malawi and Uganda. The project aims at supporting Health and Health care resource allocation decisions which are value and evidence based in Sub-Saharan, and involves collaboration with specialists in Health Economics, Epidemiology, Ethics Modelling and Governance. To achieve the aim above HEPU would like to conduct a scoping study to examine the feasibility of Heath Technology Assessment (HTA) through the use the Value and Evidence Based Decision Making and Policy (VEDMAP) tool in a Malawian context.

Applications are therefore being invited from suitably qualified for the post of Research Fellow

Key Responsibility                                                                                

  • Develop research plan for the study
  • Conduct literature reviews on HTA, VEDMAP and Covid-19 related concepts
  • Manage social network platforms
  • Manage and supervise research team
  • Develop Data Collection framework and Database
  • Prepare progress reports for PI/ Local PI and funding agency
  • Prepare other articles, reports and presentations of a policy brief on the use of HTA
  • All other duties assigned


  • Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Science, Ethics and Governance or related
  • Minimum 2 years’ progressive experience in similar position
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in research, study design, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge in framework development
  • Those with publications will have added advantage

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to summarize and analyze desperate information in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent research methodology and data collection skills
  • Ability to organizational work plans based on higher level goals
  • Strong organizational skills in order to balance competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to apply research ethics procedures
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet programs and database management.
