Job Description

The Malawi Housing Corporation, a statutory Corporation established by the Malawi Housing Corporation Act (cap.32.02) of the Laws of Malawi, is looking for suitably qualified, dynamic and experienced, mature individuals to fill the following vacant positions existing in its establishment. The position of Regional Manager is tenable in Lilongwe and Mzuzu while the rest of the positions are tenable at Head Office in Blantyre.

The Company

Malawi Housing Corporation was established through the Malawi Housing Act of 1964(Chapter 32.02 of the Laws of Malawi). It’s mandate is to construct houses, develop plots and maintain the existing
houses and plots. The Act was amended by Parliament in December 2016 extending the mandate to enable the Corporation operate as a commercial entity.

To provide and facilitate decent and affordable housing and commercial infrastructure through plot development, construction, maintenance, and property management, in an environmentally sustainable manner and as a profit-making entity.

 

THE VACANT POSITIONS

The Malawi Housing Corporation, a statutory Corporation established by the Malawi Housing Corporation Act (cap.32.02) of the Laws of Malawi is looking for suitably qualified, dynamic and experienced, mature individuals to fill the following vacant positions existing in its  establishment. The position of Regional Manager is tenable in Lilongwe and Mzuzu while the rest of the positions are tenable at Head Office in Blantyre.

Position: REGIONAL MANAGER

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Regional Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership, coordination and direction of Regional MHC Activities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implementing MHC policies, plans, strategies, systems and processes in the Region.
  •  Planning, developing, coordinating and implementing budgets for the Region
  •  Supervising and coordinating matters relating to plot development and allocation in the Region
  •  Monitoring efficient and prudent utilization of human, material and financial resources allocated to the Regional Office in line with the Corporation’s policies and practices.
  • Coordinating the conducting of training needs analysis and developing training programs to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes of employees for improved job performance.
  •  Coordinating implementation of performance and reward management systems, processes and procedures for the corporation at regional level.
  •  Monitoring minor works in progress to ensure that the works and expenditure match with the budget and ensure quality, safety and compliance with environmental standards.
  •  Supervising maintenance of buildings, roads and sewer systems in the Region to ensure that materials drawn from the stores are properly utilised.
  •  Preventing illegal plot development and illegal tenancy.
  •  Chairing Plot and House Allocation Committee and Internal Procurement Committee meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Land Management (Real Estates Management), Land Economy, Public Administration, Human Resources Management, Strategic Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in the relevant fields will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ post qualification work experience and at managerial level in a busy organisation
