Job Description

The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) whose main objective to ensure security of fuel supply in Malawi is a wholly owned Malawi Government Company established under the Company’s Act of 1984 on the 10th December 2010 and commenced its operation in 2012. NOCMA is responsible tor managing the Country’s million liters Strategic Fuel Reserves situated in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu; and smaller depots in Chilumba, Chipoka and Mchinji.

Over the past eight (8) years, the Company has grown tremendously in its national strategic importance with its fuel importation market share growing from ten percent (10%) in 2015 to an average of sixty percent (60%) in 2019/20 and this has been matched with growth in Institutional capacity and investments to enable efficiency and effectiveness in executing its mandate.

In its drive to censure improved and sustained efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of its mandate. NOCMA is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced candidates to fill various highly rewarding positions that have arisen within the Company.

Job title: Public Relations Officer

Grade: NOC6

Department: Public Relations Section

Reporting to: CEO

Purpose at the Job :

To implement public relations and customer experience activities, policies, programs and plans to ensure good reputation of the company.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining a positive corporate image of the Company and promoting the interests of stakeholders
  • Facilitating a positive stakeholder feedback process and ensuring that all complaints are resolved within the minimum time
  • Organizing and coordinating corporate events such as road shows, civic education campaigns, donations, among others
  • Preparing budgets for the Section
  • Developing and maintaining a good rapport with the media by answering their queries, giving media updates and press releases.
  • Participating in the development and production of corporate publications including Annual Reports.
  • Analysing media issues and advising management accordingly.
  • Generating articles for the media, general public and other stakeholders.
  • Participating in serving as a mouthpiece for the Company.
  • Carrying out staff sensitization using internal communication channels such as newsletters
  • Providing accurate and up to date information to stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Conducting corporate image audits and customer surveys.
  • Producing and submitting periodic reports
  • Monitoring media coverage of emerging fuel and gas related issues and keeping records of the same

Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, Marketing or Business Administration
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ practical experience in busy organization

  • Strong communication skills and getting along well with others
  • Wide Knowledge of customer care
  • Quick learner, Self-starter and Proactive
  • Willingness to stretch and work under pressure. as and when required to do so
  • Problem solving ability
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Should be patient, polite and hardworking
  • Ability to exercise own initiative and judgment.
