Job Description

The Catholic Health Commission (CHC) of the Diocese of Chikwawa is one of the main Commissions under the Social Services Directorate of the diocese, and is an arm of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi. Its main function is to enhance the provision of equitable health services in the Diocese of Chikwawa. Catholic Health Commission is affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University – Jhpiego in developing innovations to enhance the capacity of health care workers, strengthening health systems and improve delivery of care towards improving the health and well-being.

The Catholic Health Commission, therefore, seeks to engage the services of a well experienced, highly motivated and suitably qualified person of Malawi origin to fill the following position tenable at Chikwawa.

Position: Projects Officer

Reports to: Health Coordinator

Location: Chikwawa

Purpose of the role

This position will help to coordinate interventions and support VMMC service providers and demand creation teams in CHC VMMC sites to operationalize service delivery and demand creation plans in a more organized and coordinated way to yield higher performance in terms of number of MCs done on a regular basis. This will include, organizing demand creation activities, coordinate training activities, ensuring site preparedness, district-level work planning, clinical supervision, and quality improvement activities

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management in the CHC sites to ensure that the project meets its deliverables and activities to meet targets according to the agreed upon work plan;
  • In collaboration with the team leaders, develop activity work plans and budgets;
  • Contribute to annual work planning, budgets, training plans and quarterly reports and other required technical reports;
  • Manage the development of quarterly activity plans, budgets, with the district teams, and ensure implementation and advance liquidation occurs in accordance with plans and agreed timelines;
  • Support the Site team leaders and the Zonal Manager to ensure activities are implemented within the established budgetary parameters;
  • Ensure consistent application of the implementation strategy and all by VMMC staff, and empower them to provide solutions to bottlenecks and challenges;
  • Foster a culture of data for decision-making, and ensure staff have the data and use it to inform and guide decisions about targeting, and project implementation, and making course corrections and changes in strategy;
  • Provide high level supervision for VMMC service provision and demand creation activities;
  • Contribute technical and strategic input into the program implementation strategies as articulated in annual project level and quarterly district-level work plans;
  • In collaboration with site team leaders and CMCAs provide leadership in organization of demand creation activities in the catchment areas of the selected static sites;
  • Ensure that both service provision and demand creation staff at all sites form a site team and work as a team in ensuring that there is a constant increase in number of men coming for VMMC services with the common objective of achieving 30 MCS;
  • Serve as the primary quality assurance focal person who will take the lead initiating CQI activities and oversee site-level quality improvement plans;
  • Lead the CQI process in the CHC sites including organization of internal assessment and ensuring that all standards are followed when offering services; and
  • Assist with developing and producing technical documents for the program internally, and for dissemination to stakeholders.

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health or any health related field.
  • At least three years of experience working in similar position in a busy working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and implement public health programs at district level;
  • Experience in developing technical reference and training materials plus skills in clinical Training;
  • Knowledge and familiarity of quality assurance processes and procedures and the ability to implement a quality improvement plan;
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform;
  • Experience in managing and motivating teams, supervising staff, and addressing performance challenges;
