Job Description

Introduction

BSED with financial and technical support from Save the Children International is implementing a five -year Norad Framework Agreement Programme  Securing Children’s Rights through Education and Protection (SCREP) that is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). The main goal of the project is call girls and boys learn and are safe in a quality learning environment. The programme will be implemented in Mwanza, Neno, Mzimba South and Lilongwe Urban Education Districts from 2019-2023. The Programme aims to contribute to the strengthening of Civil Society in Malawi to demand quality education with attention to learning outcomes, inclusion, protection from ut.dd marriage and teenage pregnancies and access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). It is multi-sectoral and integrated with the underlying basis being UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

BSED, therefore, seeks to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, results-oriented person tie following vacancy that is based in Neno district.

 

Position: Project Officer


Purpose of position

Based in Neno District and reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer will have overall responsibility of providing technical support in the implementation of SCREP programme at community and district levels. She/he will also be responsible for networking with the other project counterparts, stakeholders at district and community levels and other programs as necessary, to ensure achievement of the programme goal and objectives. He/she will plan, coordinate and work closely with SCREP Project Coordinator, MEAL officer and Finance and Administration Officer, District Education Manager (DEM),s Office, District Social Welfare Office, District Health Office and other key stakeholders at district level. The Project Officer is expected to have strong skills in child protection and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights programming, advocacy, community mobilization, and adult training facilitation.


Main responsibilities

  • Support development and submission of all deliverables including Annual, Bi-annual Quarterly plans, Scopes of Work and procurement plans for SCREP programme at district level.
  • Lead in developing Capacity-building plans and trainings for community structures in child protection (ending children marriage and reducing teenage pregnancies), children rights and inclusive education.
  • Organize and facilitate advocacy and community mobilization activities at district and community level for child protection (reducing teenage pregnancies and ending child marriage), children rights and inclusive education.
  • Work with SCREP Project Manager, Project Coordinator and MEAL Officer to identify opportunities for integrating child protection, children nights and inclusive education within the district to ensure maximum coordination among stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain collaboration with partners, government, NGOs and other relevant organizations and programs at district level to ensure maximum coordination of efforts and sustainability of integrated activities for SCREP programme.
  • Establish and ensure implementation of feedback mechanisms in schools and communities to mainstream accountability across the project intervention/impact areas
  • Identify, document and disseminate program best practices and lessons learned to partners and other relevant stakeholder at district level in collaboration with the M&E Officer.
  • In collaboration with MEAL write annual, bi-annual, quarterly and monthly plans and timely submit to Project Manager.


Credentials and Experience

  • A University Degree in any one of the following fields: Social Sciences, Community Development or Public/Community Health and Gender and Development Studies. Additional training in Gender, Child Protection, Youth Friendly Health Services including Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, Inclusive Education or any other relevant social development area will be an added advantage.
  • Good advocacy and community mobilizations skills.
  • At least 2 years of experience m integrating child protection, gender, children rights and inclusive education programs.
  • Experience in implementing adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights related programmes
  • Experience in facilitating adult trainings
  • Participatory methodologies and Group Facilitation skills are desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Word/Excel
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills required
  • Ability to travel extensively domestically and outside Malawi as required
