Job Description

Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to supplement Government efforts in addressing HIV and AIDS and health burden in Malawi. Through its various programs, it is currently providing high quality HIV testing, prevention and treatment services to individuals, families and communities through static and outreach outlets in order to reduce HIV transmission and the impact of HIV and AIDS in Malawi.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Project Manager for Gateway Project to be based at MACRO Secretariat in Lilongwe

Position: Project Manager for Gateway Project

Position Overview

Reporting to the Head of Programs, the Project Manager will oversee implementation of Gateway Project activities offering technical support whilst working closely with MACRO partners in order to enhance efforts aimed at reducing HIV transmission and the impact of HIV and AIDS in project districts and meet the project targets.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provides overall management of the program including day to day over sight of the program activities
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key partners in the project; including government (MoH) and local stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and leads program activities to ensure that program targets are met on time with utmost efficiency
  • Facilitates and supports regular review meetings with relevant stakeholders and project staff to check project progress, success, lessons learnt and any implementation challenges.
  • Oversees the monitoring, evaluation and controlling of the implementation of project activities and the other related services.
  • Provides mentorship and coaching to program staff in all the participating districts and member facilities
  • Coordinates the project activities and controlling the use of resources
  • Identifies and disseminate programme best practices and success stories to donor, implementing partners and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual project reports in compliance with programme expectation.
  • Provides support to project staff by overseeing implementation of their individual work plans and ensuring their professional development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of the functioning of Malawi health delivery systems, current health sector programs, strategies and implementation plans especially those related to HIV and AIDS.
  • Extensive knowledge and skills in HTS and management of HIV Testing Services programs.
  • Highly organized, meticulous and reliable with good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance/quality improvement principles will be advantageous.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in health related project management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health related field preferably Clinical, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences with contemporary HIV and AIDS programming knowledge and practical experience
  • Applicants with Master’s Degree in Health related field shall have added advantage
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing technical reports
  • Extensive knowledge and skills in HTS and management of HIV Testing Services programs.
  • Knowledge and experience in using quality improvement methodologies for health, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, communication and learning (knowledge management)
  • Creative and innovative thinking, and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills coupled with excellent communication skills: verbal, written, listening, presentation and facilitation
