Job Description

Job Title: Project Manager

Malawi Network of Older Persons’ Organizations (MANEPO), Kadale Properties Limited, Plot no. 244, Bwaila Road, Area 15, Lilongwe, MALAWI; with periodic travel to project locations (Central-Eastern Malawi).

Contract type: Full time, 40 hours a week, one-year renewable fixed contract

Salary: Competitive

Estimated starting date: July 2021

Reporting to: MANEPO Head of Programmes

Background & Purpose

MANEPO is a consortium of Civil Society Organizations whose aim is to help older men and women claim their rights, challenge discrimination, and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active, and healthy lives in Malawi

MANEPO is looking to recruit a Project Manager on a fixed term contract to provide support in the implementation of the project entitled: Improving access to quality, inclusive and comprehensive eye health services for marginalised rural communities in central-eastern Malawi.

The project is funded by UK Government and will be delivered in partnership with Christian Blind Mission UK (CBM UK) and the Nkhoma CCAP Mission Hospital, NMH.

The purpose of the role is ensuring alignment and close collaboration with the NMH, CBM UK and other stakeholders for the quality delivery of programme.

Key responsibilities:

  • • Lead on planning and managing effective project implementation in coordination with partners.
    • Carry out inclusive monitoring and evaluation of the project activities including timely preparation and submission of all relevant reports according to the guidance provided.
    • In collaboration with the Finance & Operations Officer, monitor project expenditure and status of the implementation plan, ensuring that project activities are completed in timely fashion and within budget.
    • Identify and manage risks to ensure achievement of the project’s objectives and regularly review and update the project risk register.
    • Lead on planning, implementing, and monitoring safeguarding and accountability related activities to minimize the risk of harm to project participants.
    • Develop and maintain excellent working relations with the implementing partners, NMH and CBM UK staff as well as other programme stakeholders including relevant organisations and line government agencies, in particular the Ministry of Health.
    • Represent the project in meetings related to disability and/or eye health organized by the Government and other stakeholders.
    • Take up any other related duties assigned and agreed by the line manager.

    Qualifications and Experience:


    • • University degree or relevant experience in medical/ophthalmology, public health, development studies or related fields. Those with masters will have an added advantage
      • At least five to ten years of experience in inclusive Project Management of development programmes including monitoring and evaluation.
      • Demonstrated experience with safeguarding and accountability practices and working with

      vulnerable groups.
      • Fluency in written and spoken English.


      • • Experience and understanding of Eye Health and particular Eye Health Services in Malawi.
        • Sound understanding of disability and age-related issues.
        • Experience working with Governments and national and international non-governmental

          • Excellent organization skills.
          • Ability to take the initiative and work with minimum supervision.
          • Effective use of IT including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
