Job Description

The Hunger Project Malawi (THP-Mw) is a branch of the Global Hunger Project, a non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger and poverty. Our vision is a world where every woman, man and child Iead a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.

Our mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocate for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. THP-Malawi has been operating in Malawi since 1979 and is currently running programs and projects in nine districts namely, Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba.

THP-Mw has received funding from CBM to implement a project called “Promoting Disability mainstreaming in food and nutrition security” in Ntcheu, Phalombe and Nsanje Districts for a period of five years.

THP-Mw wishes to recruit project staff for the position of Project Manager (1)


(Based in Ntcheu District )


To provide strategic leadership, direction and overall guidance for successful implementation of Food and Nutrition security project in Nsanje, Ntcheu and Phalombe districts


Reporting to the Head of Programs at THP Malawi, the key responsibilities of the Project Manager will be as follows:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction for successful implementation of project activities according to project design.
  • Supervise field project staff to ensure project activities are effectively and efficiently implemented
  • Work with key district stakeholders and DEC members to ensure effective implementation of project activities
  • Participate in District Executive Committee (DEC) meetings at district level and other district subcommittee meetings to ensure that the District Councils are well versed with the project implementation processes.
  • Build staff capacity in project implementation, documentation and project monitoring
  • Lead production and timely submission of high-quality donor and management monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Support monitoring, evaluation and learning from program implementation activities
  • Ensuring that all agreed project targets are being met timely
  • Support HOP, HOFA and Country Manager & maintain effective communication with CBM Malawi office on matters related to the project
  • Work with Financial Inclusion & Livelihoods, Heath and Nutrition Specialists at THP in the implementation of food security, nutrition and microfinance activities and mainstreaming disability issues in the project activities.


Highly competitive skills and knowledge m managing donor funded projects. Demonstrated skills in managing working relationship with district stakeholders. Analytical skills in writing reports to donor. Community mobiliser


  • Good planning, organizational and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Good social and interpersonal skills. Team player with outgoing personality
  • Self motivated and able to manage oneself
  • Ability to focus on priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.

  • Must have at least a first degree in Agriculture, Nutrition and Rural Development. Those with Master’s degree may have an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience on a senior position -in managing donor funded projects.
  • Experience in working with multi-sectoral district teams
  • Must be used to working in a challenging environment and committed to provide excellent results
  • Be highly motivated and organized, with strong work ethic, proactive attitude to problem solving and an inclination to work smart as part of a competent team
  • Should possess excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills m English.
