Job Description

DAPP Malawi in partnership with GIZ under the sector project Employment in Rural Areas with Focus on Youth (RYE) is to implement a pilot project in mushroom production in Traditional Authority Mlonyeni, Mchinji District

The project is designed to address the following overall objectives:

  • Labour supply: Young people improve their employment prospects by obtaining access to modern, market-oriented agricultural qualifications.
  • Labour demand: Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups continue to develop their businesses and business models, thus creating employment prospects for themselves and others.

DAPP Malawi is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for a position as a Project Manager to be implemented by DAPP- Malawi funded by GIZ (RYE) in Mchinji District for a period of 11 months.

Job Summary/ responsibilities

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day to day implementation of the project and ensure the project implementation is on track – with more focus on the following responsibilities:
  • Contribute to overall coordination, collaboration and progress monitoring, evaluation, provide technical, administrative, and managerial advice, guidance, and oversight to overall project implementation
  • Provide technical training to Farming Instructors and/farmers in mushroom production, harvesting, processing, and marketing training course
  • Guide on the set up of mushroom production units
  • Work hand in hand with the business developer in the search for mushroom markets
  • Prepare Project Action Plans and Budgets and ensure they are agreed up by project staff
  • Hold monthly, and quarterly Project Coordination Meetings with key partners and stakeholders to ensure that implementation of project activities is in accordance with the plan.
  • Provide logistical support needs of 2 Farming Instructors and GoM extension workers in project implementation.


  • The individual should have a minimum of Diploma in Horticultural sciences or its equivalent, with minimum of 3 years’ experience in Project Management in a similar position.
  • He/she must have demonstrated knowledge of project cycle management and community based project implementation.
  • Knowledge in setting up the mushroom production houses/units a MUST.
