PROJECT FIELD OFFICER – DISASTER RISK REDUCTION (DRR) – NSANJE AND CHIKWAWA

Place of Assignment: Nsanje with frequent field travel to Chikwawa
Position type: Full-time – fixed term renewable. Project position for initially 9 months with possibility of extension.
Starting date: 01 October 2021 (subject to final project approval by the donor)
COOPI is a leading humanitarian NGO that has been working in Malawi since 1999, focusing on resilience building and DRR in the most vulnerable and flood/drought prone districts of the country. COOPI has been awarded a project to support Disaster Risk Reduction and Early Warning activities in Nsanje and Chikwawa districts.
The project titled “Strengthening disaster preparedness and adaptive response capacities of rural communities in Chikwawa and Nsanje districts for improved resilience” is being implemented in close collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) and its sub-national entities.
Purpose of the position:
Under the direction and supervision of the COOPI – DRR program manager, the Project Field Officer shall plan, implement, monitor and document all DRR activities with the purpose of increasing awareness and resilience of vulnerable populations to disasters and the predicted effects of climate change in Nsanje and Chikwawa Districts. The DRR Project Field Officer shall also provide necessary technical support, related trainings, follow-up, and guidance to targeted community members, stakeholders and partners and also provide feedback and reports to the DRR Programme manager within stipulated timeframes. In particular, the position shall support and build capacity of the local Disaster Risk Management (DRM) authorities from district to village levels to improve early warning services, as well as disaster preparedness and response in the event of natural and man-made disasters. The Field Officer shall also apply a child friendly and gender sensitive focus in the implementation of all activities.
