Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication is one of the leading local health and development communication NGO in Malawi. Pakachere exists to empower Malawians, particularly the vulnerable, to choose and sustain healthy behaviors, through service delivery, evidence-based health and development communication, community mobilization, advocacy and networking. Pakachere invites suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:



Position: Project Driver



Responsible to: Project Manager

Key relationships: Project Manager M & E Manager, Community Mobilisation Officer, Field Officer and Data Entry Clerks  

Working hours: 40 hours

Contract: Full time, 1 year contract - renewable

Purpose of the job

The Project Driver will provide support to WVI-Global Fund AGYW project in transportation and delivery of staff to the field in a safe and timely manner. He/she will also be responsible in loading, transporting and delivering items to clients/partners in a safe and timely manner. The project Driver will be reviewing stocks before and after delivery to ensure that delivery is complete, the stock items collected are as per stock transfer order and that clients/partners and employees are satisfied with the delivery.

 

 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that motor vehicles are road worthy at all times.
  • Ensures that motor vehicles are clean at all times
  • Updates log book at all times.
  • Prepare gate-pass before every trip


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive safely, obey thetraffic laws, and respect the rights of other road users.
  • Ensures that all motor vehicles are clean at all times and and keep the vehicles in clean condition, both inside and outside all the time;
  • Checking basic maintenance (engine oil, coolant, water level, tire pressure, fuel).
  • Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs, keep track of general maintenance schedules, especially car tyre condition;
  • Schedule annual vehicle examination for service vehicles with Administrative Officer and apply for the renewal for the vehicle license;
  • Ensures that all motor vehicles have all items (jack, spare tire, fire extinguisher, wheel spanner, triangle plates, first Aid Kit, tool box).
  • Maintaining a daily log of all trips, mileage and fuel consumption for monthly checking by Project Administrator
  • Collecting and delivery mail as and when need arise.
  • Ensures that vehicles are taken to the garage for general servicing and in good time when faults emerge.
  • Reporting any merging incidences to the Project Administrator as and when need arise.
  • Completing information daily required for monthly vehicle reports to be submitted to management
  • Ensures cost-saving through proper use of vehicle daily through accurate maintenance of vehicle logs.
  • Prepares stock transfer note when delivering stock and ensure that it is completed at all times by all parties (officer discharging and receiving the goods).
  • Act as a back up for the Receptionist during lunch hours and as needed by answering to the phone and taking care of visitor registration.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Knowledge /Experience
  • Knowledge of international donor funding environment.
  • Three years’ work experience as a driver with safe/clean driving record

Educational qualification

  • MSCE
  • Valid and clean SADC driving licence
  • Certificate/knowledge in Motor mechanics
  • Fluency in English.

Desired Skills & Attributes:

  • Knowledge of the Highway code and driving rules and regulations
  • Knowledge in minor motor vehicle repairs
  • Ability to remain calm, in control and good humoured even under pressure
  • Responds positively to critical feedback and differing points of views.
  • Ability to manage time and sociable
