Job Description

Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi a locally registered NGO since 1996, with the mission to promote social and economic development by implementing projects within health, education, community development, agriculture &food security, fund-raising and environmental programs.

DAPP Malawi is seeking a Project Director/ Chief of Party as a candidate for an anticipated USAID funded program which is geared towards Improving Health for Adolescents.

 The project aims to empower Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and Adolescent Boys and Young Men (ABYM) - to increase their knowledge about and access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and family planning services, including HIV testing and strengthening of Youth Friendly Health Services at community level. The project will also include in and out of school activities as well as address issues in relation to gender based violence.


 Specific responsibilities

The Project Director is expected to:

  • Provide technical oversight, administration, financial management, grant and contract administration and management, assuring quality, impact and cost effectiveness of the project.
  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction. Assemble and motivate a team of about 40 local staff and short-term advisors. Effectively implement the project vision; supervise personnel; guide office operations, and liaise with donors, partners and DAPP Malawi’s Senior Management.
  • Direct and oversee DAPP Malawi’s work in the assigned program, ensuring that all program goals are met through proper design and implementation.
  • Organize and direct the work of local staff and short-term advisors. Provide supervision, training and performance appraisals.
  • Establish and maintain effective project reporting, evaluation, and communication systems. Submit timely accurate, and professional program reports that meet donor requirements to appropriate DAPP Malawi’s partnership staff and the Country Director.
  • Work with relevant district stakeholders
  • Develop and write funding proposal for the assigned program.


Required Experience and Qualifications:

In order to succeed in this challenging and varied role, you will have:

  • A Degree or Master Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant management experience including experience managing large-scale, multi-year donor funded programs including USAID-funded programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID, including USAID rules and regulation and reporting requirements.
  • Prior experience serving as a Program Director/ Chief of Party
  • Strong knowledge of adolescent health programming –hereunder Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR)and Youth friendly Health Services, HIV index testing, family planning, and gender issues programming
  • Strong working knowledge of the culture and context of Malawi preferred.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required; knowledge of Bangla preferred.
