Job Description


Job Title: Project Coordinator (STREAM) [READVERTISED]

Reporting to: Principal Investigators

Location: Blantyre, Malawi


The Blantyre Malaria Project has received grant funding from the Medical Research Council  Mental Health through the University of Reading in the United Kingdom United, to support the following objectives

  • Development of a scalable mobile platform to map the population distribution of scores in key neurodevelopmental domains relevant to the mental health of 0-6 year old children in Malawi and India.
  • Testing the utility of the transdiagnostic platform in identifying the presence of any neurodevelopmental disorder as well as clinical needs of these children through an assessment of their level of functioning based on the WHO International Classification of Functioning and Disability Framework
  • Establishment of the sensitivity of the platform to fingerprint the impact of known risk factors on individual cognitive behavioural and brain function. capacity building, education and training of health professionals in Malawi.
  • The Blantyre Malaria Project will implement this grant through its Project STREAM.


To coordinate Project STREAM at the Blantyre Malaria Project, College of Medicine, University of Malawi. The post-holder will be responsible for the coordination of administrative and financial components of the project, maintaining effective communication between members of the project team, and ensuring that programme milestones are achieved on time.


  • Plan and co-ordinate activities with project staff, investigators and stakeholders in line with the project milestones and budget to ensure efficient planning and implementation of activities
  • Gather and share regular progress updates from the Project Team to ensure project activities are on target.
  • Create and maintain study regulatory file and track due dates for regulatory submissions including annual reviews
  • With the Principal Investigator, ensure project expenditure, including planning of budgets and project activities are within budget, liaising with finance staff
  • Coordinate and facilitate the compilation of funders and internal reports and ensure quality reports to funders, and other bodies are submitted in a timely manner in line with funding requirements.
  • To ensure that all agreed timelines for key tasks are adhered to by the project team and investigators and proactively discuss any difficulties with the Project Management Team
  • Together with the Principal Investigator, coordinate advocacy activities and subsequent action plans to ensure follow up.
  • Work with the investigators to ensure research activities are coordinated effectively as necessary and feedback into all reporting mechanisms.
  • To be a central contact point for the project and deal with/ or direct enquiries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To maintain effective communication between project and its stakeholders, ensuring relevant sharing of information and to provide administrative support for the project, including initiation and maintenance of systems and databases.


Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of a first degree from a recognized institution.

Other Essentials

  • Direct work experience in a project management capacity
  • Experience of managing, monitoring grant funded programmes
  • Experience of financial planning, management and control
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English)
  • Excellent knowledge of current Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Qualification in Management or project management or their equivalent
  • To have experience of working in a research institution
