Position: Project Coordinator – Agriculture and Forest Programme

Reporting to: Temwa Programmes Manager

Location: Mzuzu (With frequent travel to programme’s catchment area)

Type of Contract: Full time

Job Purpose

The Projects Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of Temwa Programmes manager and in close collaboration with Temwa UK Office, M&E officer and all AFP project officers (Full time staff, volunteers and interns) under the Agriculture and Forestry Programme, to ensure effective implementation of the programme. The projects coordinator will take the leading role in designing, implementation and reporting of all project activities under the AFP.

Specific Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop annual, quarterly and monthly project work plans and budgets, in line with donor requirements and funding guidelines
  • Supervise all subordinate AFP staff (project officers, field coordinators, volunteers and interns) to ensure professionalism and optimal performance in their respective roles
  • Ensure timely production, submission and sharing of all project reports with relevant organization departments (M&E, Communications Personnel, Temwa UK Office etc.)
  • Facilitate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports for management and for funder’s utilization
  • Coordinate timely planning and designing of all project activities in liaison with the programmes manager, M&E Officer and the Finance office.
  • Actively participate in organization resource mobilization through various tasks such as identification of relevant funding opportunities, concept note writing and proposal development
  • Facilitate quarterly, monthly and weekly review of AFP work plans and activities during organization review meetings and regular programmes meetings
  • Ensure proper documentation, confidentiality and security of all project information under the AFP which includes work plans, budgets and reports
  • Ensure that all project personnel receive an appropriate orientation to the organization and to the project with continued capacity and mentoring of AFP officers
  • Support implementation of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning activities of the Agriculture and Forestry Programme
  • Support the programmes communications officer in development and sharing of communications items such as case studies and feature stories
  • Maintain and expand Temwa’s participation and linkages with all relevant project stakeholders: Malawi Government, NGOs, local government structures (such as chiefs, VDCs and ADCs), District and local level project related NGO networks.
  • Representing the organization at local, district and national level meetings, workshops and conferences, upon Temwa’s invitation or application
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time by the programmes manager


  • Degree in Agriculture Extension, Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics, Environmental Management or any other related field. Those with additional qualifications in project management and M&E will have an added advantage
  • Over 3 years of work experience in implementing or managing agriculture and forestry related donor projects
  • Good knowledge and skills in project management cycle, monitoring and evaluation, and project reporting
  • Experience in working with community members (farmers and farmer groups, village committees, chiefs and local governance structures such as ADCs and VDCs)
  • Good knowledge of relevant agriculture and environmental management policies and strategies both at local and international levels
  • Excellent skills in facilitation of community and office engagement meetings
  • Good capacity to produce reports on time
  • Proficiency in using computer such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, virtual conferencing and google drive
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English
  • Ability to use motorcycles and willing to work in hard to reach rural communities (Those with motor cycle license will have an added advantage)
  • Ability to work effectively without supervision
