Job Description

The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is a new University formed by merging the College of Medicine and Kamuzu College of Nursing and established by an Act of Parliament (No. 20 of 2019). It is a comprehensive health and allied sciences University and intends to train more health professionals that are globally competent but locally relevant.

The University has vacancies in the following departments and research projects:

Position: Project Coordinator (1 post)

 

Position Summary

To manage the day-to-day activities of the project, coordinating and linking all activities in Malawi with an international project team, ensuring that the needs and requirements of the funding agency is adhered to, ordering and managing stocks, supervising site/study staff, and maintaining site/study records according to the procedures and principles of Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Protection.

Key Duties and responsibilities

 
  • Acting as a communication link between all national and international consortium members and ensuring the efficient performance of the team.
  • Planning and coordinating the staffing of research studies, to include the recruitment and administration of research support staff, as appropriate to the activity.
  • Coordinating the procurement of project equipment and supplies with relevant personnel.
  • Planning training and meetings to support the project and its implementation.
  • Supporting the development of research study protocols, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures at the sites according to instructions provided by the Principal Investigators.
  • Ensuring the smooth and efficient day to day operation of research and data collection activities at the site; acting as the primary administrative point of contact for internal research staff and as the principle operational liaison for other research organizations, funding agencies and regulating bodies at the site.
  • Coordinating all activities for the project at the sites.
  • Coordinating the day-to-day activities of any technical support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research/clinical protocol, as appropriate to the position.
  • Tracking and analysing projects – performance, expenditures, procurement and report any possible or current blockers, risks, overflows, deficits.
  • Coordination of reports to an international donor, which will involve collection of financial and scientific data.
  • Performing other related duties as required by the site PI.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a research work setting.
  • Excellent communicational skills including written and verbal English
  • Proven experience with team and financial management. Experience in financial management of an EDCTP grant is considered as an asset.
  • Those with knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures, laboratory operations, clinical research standards and regulatory requirements, will have an added advantage.
  • IT competence (Word, Excel, Internet)
  • Valid driving license
