United Purpose (UP) Malawi is an international non-governmental organisation working to create opportunities for lasting improvement in peoples’ lives. We work in partnership with others to support a range of livelihoods and food security, WASH and health, sustainable energy and gender equality programmes reaching over 1,000,000 people a year across Malawi. Globally, we work in nine countries across Africa, Asia and South America, however our Malawi programme is the largest country programme. UP currently operates in 17 districts in Malawi, supporting over 30 on-going projects, with a total staff of over 250.
UP generates certified emissions reductions (aka ‘carbon credits’) from its work providing clean safe water to communities. These credits are sold by United Purpose in the voluntary carbon offsetting market to bring post-implementation income to the communities. This carbon finance enables United Purpose to ensure that the water sources are maintained and continue to supply clean water. However, we have to follow a detailed monitoring process specified by the Gold Standard to generate the carbon credits each year.
UP therefore invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following local vacancy:
Project Coordinator (1 x based in Lilongwe Office)
Under the direct supervision of the WASH Operations Manager, the Project Coordinator will ensure timely collection, management & reporting of all the information required for carbon finance from water (i.e. borehole data & user data). S/He will effectively coordinate monitoring surveys in close coordination with UP’s Sustainable Energy Management Unit (SEMU) and/or our external carbon partner. S/He will commit to dual responsibilities – overseeing WASH monitoring interventions and ensuring boreholes are generating carbon revenues. S/He will be responsible for ensuring that Project expenditure is in line with the budget and implementation is on track to meet expected targets. S/He will also work in close coordination with SEMU Program Manager, WASH Operations Manager, WASH Project Manager and WASH Facilitators and Project Accountant. S/He will line manage the Technical Officer.
The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for ensuring the project is delivered in line with the UN’s protection mainstreaming pillars, UP’s Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy and with Core Humanitarian Standard 5 by ensuring:
