Job Description

Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi a locally registered NGO since 1996, with the mission to promote social and economic development by implementing projects within health, education, community development, agriculture & food security, fund-raising and environmental programs.

DAPP Malawi is seeking a Project Coordinator as a candidate for an anticipated World Bank funded program falling under Technical Education (TEVET).

Position: Project Coordinator

The programis centered on equipping young men and women with technical skills and knowledge for them to become productive youths, able to secure employment and/or become self-reliant by starting up small-scale businesses, thereby alleviating their poverty and to mobilize these youth to use their skills and full potential to create development at and through the community where they will be working


Specific responsibilities

Reporting to the Country Director of Development Aid from People to People - Malawi, and Chief Executive Officer TEVET Authority, The Project Coordinator’s main tasks include and not limited to:

  • Responsible for day to day coordinating the entire Job for Rural Youth Program implementation
  • Assist in rehabilitation infrastructure and installation of equipment in the 5 Community Skills Development Centres
  • Support Centre Managers to introduce the project to  5 District Councils of Mwanza, Neno, Balaka, Chikwawa and Machinga for endorsement
  • Coordinating training courses in 5 Community Skills Development Centres
  • Assist in students recruitment
  • Prepare Action Plans and Budgets and present them to the Project Steering Committee for Approval
  • Organize and execute Project Management Team Meetings
  • Attend PSC meetings where he will present Action Plans & Budget for approval
  • Supervise Rural Skills Development Centre, Centre Managers
  • Facilitate procurement of assets for the project
  • Ensure that the Project Book of Accounts is audited at the end of project year.
  • Supervise, monitor the project implementation and ensure that the project is on track in achieving its objectives
  • Contribute to overall coordination, collaboration and progress monitoring, evaluation, provide technical, administrative and managerial advice, guidance and oversight to overall project implementation
  • Provide logistical support needs to Centre Managers, Training Instructors and other project staff members
  • Hold monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual Project Coordination Meetings with key partners and stakeholders to ensure that implementation of project activities is in accordance with the plan.
  • Facilitate Mid-Term Project Evaluation/Review
  • Facilitate End of Project Evaluation
  • Prepare of reports (inception, quarterly, annual, and of project status report), to be submitted to Country Director (DAPP-Malawi), Country Director (TEVET Authority) and the donor (African Development Bank)
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by Country Director (DAPP) and Executive Director (TEVET Authority)


Required Experience and Qualifications:

In order to succeed in this challenging and varied role, the coordinator should have:

  • First Degree in Technical Education
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant hands on management experience including experience managing large-scale, multi-year donor funded programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of donor rules, regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Prior experience serving as a Program Coordinator/Manager
  • Strong knowledge of Vocational and Technical issues in Malawi
  • Strong working knowledge of the culture and context of Malawi preferred.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required;
