TRANSFORM is a four-year programme which is being coordinated by three Norwegian organizations namely the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), the Development Fund of Norway (DF) and Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). The overall objective is to strengthen local food systems in selected areas in five of Malawi’s rural districts and to demonstrate a sustainable improvement of food and nutrition security, resilience to climate change and income among agriculture-dependent rural households. By increasing resilience to climate change, diversifying agriculture production, developing new value chains and closing the gender gap in agriculture, the program will contribute to the transformation of the agricultural sector in Malawi.

Anglican Council in Malawi (ACM) has received funding from Norwegian Church Aid to implement an Early Childhood Development project in Mchinji, Rumphi, Mzimba, Kasungu and Ntchisi. ACM seeks to recruit a Project Accountant at its Secretariat in Lilongwe.

Position: Project Accountant

Position Overview

Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, the Project Accountant will be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial and non-financial project reports and analyses whilst contributing to the financial and management accounting tasks performed within ACM.


Main Responsibilities

• Coordinating grant related post-award functions of budgeting; preparation of periodic donor invoices for project funds reimbursement; bank reconciliations of grant accounts and monthly cash flow forecasts.
• Ensuring timely preparation, consolidation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for project activities.
• Communicating monthly financial results to appropriate program staff informing them of the financial position of the project.
• Enforcing compliance of Internal Controls and financial procedures.
• Providing technical support to project staff by overseeing implementation of their individual work plans and enhancing their professional development.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or Professional Certification such as ACCA and CIMA
• Three (3) years’ experience in Finance and Financial Reporting, experience working in a donor-funded organization will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of donor financial management and disbursement guidelines will be a very strong advantage
• Excellent computer skills and be conversant in using accounting packages such as QuickBooks and Sage
• Self-starter and ability to work independently, pay careful attention to detail and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Should have good communication skills and fluency in English.

Appointment and Remuneration

The position is a one-year contract subject to renewal based on availability of funds, performance, and meeting agreed performance targets. Successful candidate shall be offered attractive salary and benefits in accordance with the Anglican Council in Malawi Condition of Service.
