Job Title: Programme Coordinator (ACEPHEM Project)

Reporting to: Principal Investigator

Location: Blantyre, Malawi


The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is implementing the Africa Centers of Excellence II project through its Africa Center of Excellence in Public Health and Herbal Medicine (ACEPHEM. A vacancy has arisen for the post of a Programme Coordinator.

Position: Programme Coordinator


To coordinate ACEPHEM Project at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. This project is an innovative education and training initiative focusing on research capacity building, community education and training platforms, quality postgraduate education, and international partnership.

The post-holder will be responsible for the coordination of administrative and financial components of the project, maintaining effective communication between members of the project team, and ensuring that programme milestones are achieved on time.


  • Plan and co-ordinate activities with project staff, investigators and stakeholders in line with the project milestones and budget to ensure efficient planning and implementation of activities;
  • Gather and share regular progress updates from the Project Team to ensure project activities are on target;
  • With the Principal Investigator, ensure project expenditure, including planning of budgets and project activities are within budget, liaising with finance staff;
  • Coordinate and facilitate the compilation of funders’ and internal reports and ensure quality reports to funders, and other bodies are submitted in a timely fashion in line with funding requirements;
  • To ensure that all agreed timelines for key tasks are adhered to by the project team and investigators and proactively discuss any difficulties with the Project Management Team;
  • Together with the Principal Investigator, coordinate advocacy activities and subsequent action plans to ensure follow up;
  • Work with the investigators to ensure research activities are coordinated effectively as necessary and feedback into all reporting mechanisms;
  • Support the M&E Officer to ensure M&E activities are carried out according to the budget and timeframe;
  • To be a central contact point for the project and deal with/ or direct enquiries in a timely and efficient manner;
  • To maintain effective communication between project and its stakeholders, ensuring relevant sharing of information and to provide administrative support for the project, including initiation and maintenance of systems and databases.


Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of a first degree from a recognized institution.

Other Essentials

  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project cycle management
  • Direct work experience in a project management capacity
  • Experience of managing, monitoring grant funded programmes;
  • Experience of financial planning, management and control
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English)
  • Excellent knowledge of current Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Desirable Requirements
  • Qualification in Management and/or project management or their equivalent
  • Have experience of working in a higher education institution
