Programmatic Support Consultancy – Nsanje District

The Role

Last Mile Health is committed to supporting the Community Health Services Sections (CHSS) in Malawi to implement its community health program in line with the national community health strategy (2017 – 2021). As the COVID-19 epidemic continues to pose a threat to delivery of community health services and broader health care, Last Mile Health’s focus will continue to be on ensuring that a strengthened and robust community health system is in place to offer both routine community health services as well as much needed emergency response for COVID-19 at community level in Malawi.

The Consultant will work in close collaboration with the Program Manager to strengthen communication and coordination processes with the district health management team which facilitates effective oversight of the LMH COVID-19 interventions, as well as supporting effective program delivery. The successful candidate must be willing to reside in Nsanje District for the period of this contract.


Project Details:

  • Commitment – 3 months at 40 hours per week with an immediate start date preferred
  • Location – Nsanje District (permanent residence in Nsanje preferred)



What You’ll Do

  • Technical Support
    • Facilitate meetings with district government and external stakeholders to revise and agree to an implementation plan
    • Conduct ongoing monitoring/ support visits to activity sites
    • Document program success stories and good practices
    • Assist in mapping of Community Health Workers and Community Health Structures for the district
    • Assist in collecting data for Stakeholder mapping of the district
    • Data entry for training pre and post tests
    • Actively participate and assist technical team in drafting and finalizing quarterly work plan and budget
    • Report writing as required
  • Administrative Support
    • Prepare meeting/workshop materials e.g. participants registration forms, attendance sheets
    • Send invitation letter and follow up with invites to confirm availability and participation of attendees
    • Assist Program team to produce letters, documents, reports, presentations and materials for distribution (Including word processing, computer graphics, layout, photocopying, etc.)
    • Organize and coordinate meetings on-site and off-site; verify meeting venues, arrange for water/refreshments
    • Assist in preparing budgets for meetings/trainings
    • Coordinate transport needs for the district for both LMH and MoH as required to ensure that a comprehensive transportation schedule for district planned activities, is in place
    • Provide quotes for lodging and venues
  • Finance Support
    • Manage accountability forms during meetings/trainings; registration sheets, allowance sheets
    • Assist in disbursing cash during trainings/workshops, as required
    • Assist in reconciliation of expenses, ensuring that valid receipts and documents are in place

  • Diploma in Public Health, Environmental health.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Flexible and able to prioritise competing workloads
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information with discretion and confidence

  • Demonstrated experience of providing monitoring and evaluation support


You’ll Impress Us If

  • You have a BSc in Public Health or Environmental Health
  • You have previously worked at the district level in Nsanje
