Job Description

The Bantwana Initiative of World Education Inc. (WEI/Bantwana) seeks a qualified Economic Strengthening Program Officer for the USAID funded Ana Patsologo Activity (APA), a project aimed at preventing new HIV infections and reducing the vulnerability of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). WEI/Bantwana is a leader in OVC programming and organizational capacity development in high HIV prevalence countries in southern and eastern Africa. 

Job Summary

The Program Officer - Economic Strengthening (POES) supports the implementation of the household economic strengthening (HES) aspects of Ana Patsogolo in 8 districts in the Southern Region of Malawi. The role is critical in the translation of OVC and DREAMS program household economic strengthening plans into activities, outputs, outcomes that ensure adolescent girls and young women and their families are thriving and resilient. This position will report to the Technical Specialist Economic Strengthening will have the following responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support coordination of program activities for Economic Strengthening.
  • Coordinate  work planning, development  and sharing of appropriate economic strengthening tools, training, assessments, materials development and distribution activities ensuring that all activities are properly and timely performed and that outputs are accomplished and delivered according to the agreed work plans.
  • Work closely with project technical staff and subgrantee partners to oversee economic strengthening coordination and collaboration in target districts.
  • Work closely with the DREAMS and other technical staff to ensure that AGYW, youth and caregivers are reached with the appropriate packages of ES services.
  • Train, mentor, supervise, monitor and support partner organizations in the implementation with fidelity of all economic strengthening models.
  • Liaise with partners, and relevant stakeholders regarding the project activities and policies and contribute toward formulating these policies and interventions; troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Participate in all relevant planning, implementation, and management of project meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly and annual technical reports.  
  • Perform any other activity as assigned by technical staff.
  • Degree in: social work and social administration, development studies, guidance and counselling, or related fields from a recognized institution.
  • At least two years of experience working with an international NGO.
  • Experience with Economic Strengthening for vulnerable populations preferred.
  • Relevant experience in documentation, reporting and records management is a requirement.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to communicate in the local and national languages.
  • Computer skills with expertise in PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
