Job Description

Rays of Hope Ministries is a non-profit, Christian organization that collaborates with the Malawi government to produce morally responsible and youthful leaders through educational programs in Blantyre, Zomba, Ntchisi, and Mchinji. We focus on basic and secondary school students as a foundation for glooming these youthful leaders. There is a need to invest time and resources in the welfare of the children when they are in school, at home and afterschool. To that end, we intend to recruit qualified individuals to fill existing vacancies in the organization below.

Position: PROGRAM OFFICERS (2) – Blantyre (Posts only for women)

Role Purpose

The Program Officer’s role requires the incumbent to be providing technical support and leadership to two of our programs namely, Academic Innovation and Economic Integration. This involves keeping an active and cordial engagement with all the key education stakeholders of the program including beneficiaries, the community and concerned education players. All this will be done to ensure a smooth implementation of the said programs.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

• Run a cohesive remedial program with other program pieces such as job-training and summer camp.
• Ensure that there is a sound and cordial relationship among students, teachers, and parents all the time.
• Implement all the planned processes of improving learners performance in their academic endeavors.
• To be a liaison of the organization with the local schools and the subsequent key stakeholders including the community.
• Curate the youth mentorship process in the remedial program.
• Improve and use the present structure of recruiting primary school learners who are beneficiaries of the program.
• Plan and organize a curriculum that will foster spiritual development of the learners in consistent with the goals and objectives of the organization.
• Lead and coordinate home visits throughout the year.

• Applicants should have a Certificate or Diploma level qualification in teaching.

EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

• At least three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the practice of teaching in primary schools.
• Experience in coordination and implementation of education program/projects.
• Skills in community mobilization, especially involvement of parents in supporting learning for their children and group facilitation.
• Experience working with Nongovernmental organizations and government officials essential will be an added advantage.
• Good personal and organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
• Excellent communication (written and oral communication) and interpersonal skills
• Ability and flexibility to work with a team.
• Honest, reliable and a good work ethic.
• Motorcycle driving license and experience is a must.
