Job Title:
 Program Coordinator, Economic Empowerment

Reports to:
 Director of Programs

Location: Lilongwe

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  2. Proposal development and fundraising
  3. Human resource and Financial management
  4. Coordination, networking and public relations with partners and other key stakeholders


1. Project Development, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Design the program cycle with technical input from the Director of Programs and Program Advisors
  • Provide oversight of the data management systems and processes
  • Document all the progress made in the project on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Lead the process of producing and adapting relevant tools to the program.
  • Organize and facilitate training programs for staff and community groups
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of monthly, quarterly and annual project work plans
  • Facilitate quarterly project technical reviews and planning meetings
  • Ensure integration of the project activities with other interventions in the districts
  • Collaborate with M&E Officer during baseline, mid line and end line assessments.
  • Collaborate with M&E Officer to ensure that the project has an M&E system in place.

2. Fundraising

  • Manage old partners while cultivating new donors/partners for the Economic Empowerment program.
  • Develop and/or contribute towards the development of proposals for funding for the Economic Empowerment program.

3. Human resource and Financial Management

  • Monitor program expenses according to the budget in conjunction with the accounting staff, manage the budget to cater for all the project needs
  • Assist the annual budget projections for the program
  • Review financial reports for various donors
  • Coordination of national level human, financial and material resources of the project to ensure efficient resource allocation and utilization for all components;
  • Supervise project staff in all districts of operation, coaching and mentoring, provide overall supportive supervision of all key training events planned in the program; to ensure staff achieve their targets and realize program goals.
  • Assist HR in the recruitment of staff
  • Conduct team building and staff appraisals.

4. Networking and Collaboration

  • Represent World Relief at national level and other relevant meetings
  • Represent World Relief Malawi in network forums and government meetings relevant to community managed savings programs; agriculture; business development and/or economic empowerment
  • Maintain close links with the appropriate Government Departments and other organizations (including NGO’s) implementing agriculture and economic development work in the respective districts;
  • Work alongside the Church Empowerment coordinator to help integrate the Economic empowerment program into other programs within the CEZ
  • Advise and get actively involved in the building of relationships with local churches to be engaged with the project which can further the overall strategy of WR to empower local churches to serve the most vulnerable

5. Other Responsibilities

  • Must uphold and demonstrate the values of World Relief.
  • Demonstrate problem solving abilities, leadership qualities and the courage to adapt and make changes as necessary
  • Ability to lead team, delegate, and motivate staff to reach program targets
  • Encourage the spiritual health of the project staff

6. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies; Social Work; Community Development; Entrepreneurship Studies; Enterprise Development and Microfinance; Social Science; Media for Development and other related fields
  • At least a minimum of three (3) years practical experience in implementing economic empowerment programs.
  • Experience with proposal development, reporting skills, and budget building.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills; cross-cultural experience preferred.
