Position: Office Assistant
A medical research organization is seeking to recruit suitably qualified, highly motivated and hardworking candidates to fill the vacant position of Office Assistant as follows;
Duties and responsibilities
These will include, but are not limited to the following:
Ensure that the environment is clean and free from infection
Clean the study site with disinfectant or 0.5% chlorine at least twice a day
Ensure that cleaning is done from the least infected area to highly infected area i.e. starting from offices, then the clinic and finishing with the toilet
Welcoming and respecting the rights of research participants
Assist in organizing study materials at the study site
Emptying bins and sharp containers when three-quarter full or following pre-set protocols
Collecting linen, sorting, sluicing, washing and ironing according to protocol
Cleaning windows and high dusting once every week
Preparing refreshments for both staff and participants as required
Reporting any problem to the site supervisor or study Coordinator
Follow all health and safety regulations
Any other duties deemed to be reasonable assigned by the site Supervisor or study Coordinator.
Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
A minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar capacity
Fluent in English and Chichewa.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must have a strong work ethic and a positive approach to their occupation,
Must be able to work well alone as well as in a team and do night shifts.
Type of contract and duration
The initial contract appointment will be for 2 years and may be renewed subject to availability of funding and performance.
Duration: 2 years’ subject to funding availability
Hours: 40 hours per week with flexibility to work during weekends
Qualifications: MSCE plus 2 year’s relevant experience
Reports to: Nurse Manager/Lead and Site Coordinators as appropriate.
Accountability: Accountable to study Coordinator, and Chief Operations Officer
Liaises with: Site staff (Clinical, data, laboratory, field)

All staff are employed under TRUE and are ultimately responsible to the unit whether directly employed under different research grants. All staff are expected to be flexible and may be required to contribute to the activities of another study(s).
