For NCA to continue developing its and partners’ programmes in Malawi, NCA seek an experienced person with solid knowledge and skills to fill the following position in the Country office based in Lilongwe: In 2021 NCA merged with DanChurchAid to form Malawi Joint Country Program (JCP). The JCP was created to enhance synergy and create positive sustainable development in the lives of the poor and marginalised people in the target communities of Malawi and to reduce costs and increase efficiency and


The Sustainable Food Systems for Rural Agriculture Transformation and Resilience (TRANSFORM) program will during its implementation period of 3 years and 6 months (2021-2025) “strengthen local food systems and demonstrate a sustainable improvement of food and nutrition security, income, and resilience to climate change among 180,000 agriculture-dependent rural households within 22 EPAs of Dowa, Mchinji, Kasungu, Mzimba, and Rumphi districts.

Transform Program is being coordinated by three Norwegian organizations namely the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), the Development Fund of Norway (DF), and Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).

The Role

The Nutrition Specialist subject to funding from MFA will provide expertise around the integration of nutrition sensitive agriculture, value chain, and other market related systems development activities and components into the overall TRANSFORM program in the 5 targeted districts.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership and technical direction in approaches to adapt, scale, and disseminate successful approaches to integrating nutrition outcomes and methodologies into agriculture and market systems development activities in TRANSFORM
  • Raise community awareness and consumption of diversified, health, safe, adequate, and nutritious foods.
  • Contribute to learning and knowledge management on best practices on nutrition sensitive technologies, successes, time saving technologies and lessons learned in creating pathways for improving nutrition
  • Coordinate capacity building and technical support for beneficiaries and staff from TRANSFORM implementing partners on nutrition issues including nutrition sensitive technologies, dietary diversification, and nutrient dense diets.
  • Promoting food safety including appropriate methods of handling, preservation, processing, storage, and utilization of agriculture foods.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities to track activities and outcomes related to nutrition
  • Ensure good collaboration with District Nutrition Officers and active participation of Implementing Partners in district nutrition coordinating structures.
  • Participate in national level nutrition networks and coordinate with other projects and organizations working on nutrition, as appropriate.

Key selection criteria


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in nutrition science, dietetics, or other relevant disciplines.

Knowledge and experience

  • At least five (5) years of experience designing and implementing integrated agriculture and nutrition programming
  • Experience providing technical leadership and advisory support to teams in nutrition-sensitive agriculture
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience of integrating nutrition in Early Childhood care and Development Knowledge and experience in food systems approach will be an added advantage
  • Good understanding of research methods and analysis.

Essential skills

  • People management skills.
  • Able to work on own initiative with a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Community conflict resolution skills.
  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of office applications is required.
  • Ability to work with as a team player within a consortium.

Language skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
  • Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive, and equitable environment
