CARE is an International NGO that works in 95 countries around the world to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. In Malawi, CARE works in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and other local and international partners.



CARE Malawi has secured funding from CARE USA to support Government of Malawi efforts in limiting the impact of COVID 19 pandemic in the education sector. CARE will work with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and other local partners in the selected districts of central and southern Malawi to respond to the impact of COVID 19 in education of adolescents for a period of 2.5 years. The goal of the project is to increase access to education for rural adolescents through addressing the education and COVID 19 challenges in order to reduce the number of adolescents, particularly girls, at risk of having to drop out of school and also support adolescents, particularly girls, who have had to drop out of school to transition back into school or more meaningful employment.



CARE seeks to recruit a well-qualified person to fill the following vacant positions:

 


Position: Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Coordinator – to be based in Salima or Kasungu

 

The Project Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator (M&E Coordinator) shall be responsible for designing, monitoring and evaluation of the Start Small project activities. The M&E Coordinator shall facilitate all documentation for the various projects in the Project and ensure that necessary data for impact monitoring is available. S/he shall also facilitate the building of capacity in all matters relating to project monitoring, evaluation and learning for the project staff and partners.  S/he shall design and undertake research, including assisting consultants and playing a pivotal role in research that seeks to generate learning and measure impact on the project beneficiaries.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the development and management of participatory M and E system for the Start Small project and monitor the implementation of the system.
  • Ensure timely submission of quality project reports for the purpose of documentation and dissemination of information both internally and with other stakeholders.
  • Participate in developing project implementation plans (annually, quarterly, and monthly) including playing a leading role in planning project performance monitoring to ensure that project outcomes, impact and performance are measured against their respective indicators and contribute towards CO impact indicators.
  • Lead in developing, testing and refining of appropriate materials & tools to be used for economic empowerment, life skills building, education investment processes and progress measurement.
  • Lead in all research activities for instance periodic surveys including baseline and endline evaluations of the Start Small project.
  • Facilitate data collection, entry, analysis, interpretation and documentation of project information.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Rural Development or in any related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience of working in education, girl’s education and out-of-school initiatives in Malawi, collaborating with government departments and leading in developing and implementing project M&E systems.
  • Strong skills in the use of participatory research methodologies, Monitoring and Evaluation of adolescent empowerment and education programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with computer literacy.
  • Self-starter with strong aptitude for teamwork.
