Job Description

Grant Thornton have been retained by our client in the NGO sector to carry out an Executive Search for suitably qualifying persons to fill the position of Monitoring, Evaluation and Research and Learning Specialist (MERL) tenable at their Country Office in Lilongwe reporting to the Head of MERL with Matrix reporting to NORAD Project Manager. Position: MONITORING, EVALUATION AND RESEARCH AND LEARNING SPECIALIST

 

Position purpose and Dimensions of the Role

The MER Coordinator will be responsible for managing NORAD framework activity budgets for M&E unit activities. He/she will ensure appropriate internal communication and feedback systems are In pace and functioning so that M&E informs programme planning and implementation. The post holder will also ensure Knowledge Management, Learning and Research technical support to organization’s programmes and grants in alignment to Global and Country Strategies to support the achievement of the organisations ambitions. The holder w ill ensure high quality and timely preparation of M&E data for reports to donors, partners such as annual. quarterly, and monthly reports (focusing largely on high-level, strategic impact).



Key Accountabilities of the Position

Knowledge Management Strategy Development, Implementation and Monitoring

  • To take the lead in development and implementing the organizations Knowledge Management Strategy and plan.
  • To advise Management on effective knowledge management and Information system.
Support Innovation and Data Management
  • Advising Management on the best innovations in data management.
  • Support the development and implementation of Country Strategy Monitoring Framework for the organization AoGDs and cross-cutting themes to collect routine information on the performance of the organization’s country strategy.
  • To implement the knowledge management, learning and research systems and practices in order to support the work and development of the organization into the future.
Management of Information sharing, reflection and learning
  • Monitor and share data illustrating the organizations progress in achieving its strategic objectives.
  • To manage, maintain and develop the extra network systems. so that information and data is accessible to employees.
  • To manage the organisation’s data collection platforms for surveys and monitoring data, training users as required and assisting with survey design and the statistical analysis of results
Documentation of Best Practices and Dissemination
  • To collect, manage and share bust practices within the programmes and projects and share with stakeholders, in collaboration with the Communications and Advocacy Team.
  • Work with the programmes and Communications team in the development and packaging of Information to be disseminated to Internal and external partners in an effective manner.
Provide leadership to the organisation research ambitions
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of research and evaluation plans.
  • Coordination of field research and evaluation activities across all thematic area and Assisting in data management and analysis.



Qualifications/Experience Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in areas related to Knowledge Management, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research.
  • Six (6) years relevant work experience in an international NGO.
  • A solid understanding of Research and knowledge management principles, practices, tools and products.
  • Experience in designing, planning and implementing Monitoring and Evaluation and knowledge-related initiatives, coordinating/collaborating with other team and executing/facilitating programmes and events involving knowledge management or learning.
  • Prior experience with M&E in the area of development is an advantage.
  • Proven writing, editing and language skills, and an ability to convey complex ideas in a concise, clear, direct, and lively style.
  • Working knowledge of relevant computer software such as MS Office, WordPress, Adobe InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop, electronic mail procedures
