Job Description

The Embassy of Iceland is hiring and 4 positions are vacant at the Embassy in Lilongwe and at the field office in Mangochi. Iceland and Malawi started bilateral relations in 1989. The Embassy of Iceland in Lilongwe was formally opened in 2004. Today, the Embassy of Iceland works with a range of development partners in Malawi to support social development in the country. A considerable focus, from the outset, has been in the district of Mangochi.

Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

The Embassy of Iceland in Lilongwe is looking to recruit Monitor and Evaluation Officer (M&EO) to commence in September 2021. The M&EO works with the programme officers and reports to Director of Programme. The position is based in Lilongwe but requires frequent travelling to Mangochi.

Responsibilities and main tasks

Area of responsibility includes but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the Embassy’s design of results-based management and performance tracking systems.
  • Guide the process of designing and preparing progress and performance reports.
  • Review and analyse monitoring progress reports to identify potential challenges.
  • Foster participatory planning and monitoring by training and involving primary stakeholders groups in M&E activities.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly, bi-annual and annual progress reports.
  • Support immediate supervisor in planning, data collection and coordination of all programmes and projects.
  • Collaborate with programme and project partners (Government officials, UN organisations, and non-government/civil society organizations).

Qualifications and professional skills

  • MA/MSc Degree in social/political/economic sciences, statistics, or related field.
  • Proven ICT/computer literacy.

Professional experience

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the field monitoring and evaluation, implemented by national/ international NGOs/UN bodies/Government of Malawi.
  • Proven knowledge of monitoring and evaluation techniques and in designing tools/systems and strategies for data collection and analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to analyse and communicate complex information.
  • Experience in the governance sector advantageous.
  • Good writing and communication skills (in English and Chichewa).

Personal skills

  • Strong communication and partnership abilities are essential.
  • Organised and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player but ability to work independently
