Job Description

COMSIP Cooperative Union Limited is a member owned organization with a national footprint. It is a secondary cooperative, registered under the Cooperative Societies Act 1998. COMSIP works with rural and peri-urban community groups that are owned, managed and controlled by members themselves and its main thrust is building a culture of savings and investment among ordinary Malawians in a quest to improve livelihoods.

COMSIP is an implementing agency in the Malawi Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project (MSSRLP), a government of Malawi project supported by the World Bank.

With funding from the World Bank through the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) COMSIP therefore intends to use part of the funding to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, and result oriented project staff for the following posts to be based in Lilongwe and Mzuzu.



Position: 
MIS Officer



The MIS officer shall report to the IT Specialist. A Management Information Systems Officer will work closely with Information Systems Specialist. Together, they review the needs of the Union/Project; employees, affiliates and stakeholders related to information management, data processing and distributed processing for end users.


Main duties and responsibilities


The management information systems officer will specifically perform the following tasks:


Data management

  • Ensure that remote/mobile data collection and capturing tools/apps are functioning and up-to-date
  • Monitor data reception for ALL programmes from specific applications/tools
  • Ensure that the COMSIP database is up to date at all times
  • Ensure that user departments and units get right information from the database
  • Ensure data security
  • Systems and applications development
  • Develop and maintain technological solutions to COMSIP business needs using modern technologies
  • Maintain COMSIP MySQL Database and All existing COMSIP applications
  • Systems support
  • Ensure that all systems are available at all times
  • Plan and manage software and hardware installations
  • Conduct training on MIS activities to increase staff and stakeholder expertise.
  • Track and monitor security of hardware and software systems.
  • Provide end-user support to ALL users and stakeholders at ALL levels of operation
  • Maintain hardware and software asset register


Skills

  • Excellent knowledge in Form Management (creation and maintenance of online and offline forms) as a means of remote data collection and capturing.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of web application development: (knowledge of php and associated frameworks, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap).
  • Knowledge of VB.net programming language
  • Knowledge of relational database applications e.g. MySQL
  • Knowledge and adherence to Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)



Qualification and Experience Required

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems/Technology/Management from an accredited Institution.
  • At least 3 years post qualification experience in information management
  • Adequate knowledge and adherence to Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
