Position: Medical Officer (Grade H)

Job summary

Reporting to the Principle Medical Officer. The Medical Officer will be responsible for planning and implementing clinical activities and providing quality surgical and obstetric services. He/she is responsible for providing direction and leadership of clinical department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carrying out basic surgical and obstetric/gynecological procedures and attending to theatre emergencies
  • Provide direction and leadership in the facilitation and implementation of Clinical standards and procedures
  • Conducting regular ward rounds of admitted patients to review possible discharges, treatment and any other related management.
  • Conducting regular outpatient clinics
  • Participate in the night calls
  • Conducting audits of patient files to monitor patients care
  • Supervise clinical staff performance and consequently conduct performance evaluation biannually in consultation with the Principal Medical Officer and Human Resources Department.
  • Ensuring correct and complete recording of data in relevant HMIS registers and instruments
  • Ensuring timely processing of data and dissemination to all relevant stakeholders including timely submission of HIMS and departmental reports to designated supervisor
  • Performing routine monitoring of health indicators and using information in planning and management of health services
  • Identify staff training needs and monitors the implementation of continuous professional development of clinical staff in conjunction with the Principal Medical Officer.
  • Ensure that all Clinical Staff are practicing legally and that they are duly registered with their respective regulatory Bodies
  • Taking a leading role in identifying training needs for the clinical department to be included in the annual training plan
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time

  • MBBS
  • Registered with Medical Council of Malawi

Knowledge, Ability and Skills
  • Well conversant with the Health system in Malawi, ability to lead a team and problem identification and solving skill.
