Job Description

World Relief is an international Christian NGO working in health, economic development, disaster response, and refugee resettlement. World Relief’s mission is empowering local churches to serve the most vulnerable.

USAID awarded World Relief Malawi the Strengthening Community Health Outcomes through Positive Engagement (SCOPE) HIV project which seeks to address gaps in HIV care and treatment in order to achieve 95-95-95 goals by increasing HIV education, case finding, referral, and the return to care, and by raising awareness and justice for children by engaging faith communities, men and youth, and girls and young women at the grassroots level. The agreement period for award is March 1, 2020 to September 30, 2022.

World Relief Malawi, through the SCOPE HIV project, collaborates with key stakeholders to increase access to and utilisation of HIV care and treatment services, increase faith and community-based capacity and engagement in HIV prevention, care and treatment, influence behavior change towards seeking HIV care and treatment and SGBV services and strengthened linkages and retention for HIV care and treatment of the target population in Machinga, Mangochi, and Lilongwe Districts.

World Relief Malawi therefore invites applications from interested and qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position:

Job title: Male Champion Supervisors (3 Positions)
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Location: Lilongwe/Machinga/Mangochi

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Program coordinator, the Male Champion Supervisor will be responsible for supporting other men in their communities to initiate or return to HIV care and treatment and champion to distribute HIV self-test kits. The Male Champion Supervisors will work with various community Faith networks through their expertise to increase access to and utilization of HIV Care and Treatment services their assigned Traditional Authorities.

Specific Functions:

  • In liaison with Faith Network Supervisors and SASA!Faith Supervisors, support community mobilization and provide awareness on HIV facts on care and treatment services.
  • Coordinate promoters and a network of Male Champion volunteers in targeted T/As to support HIV+ Positive peers and other young people in their communities to return to care and treatment.
  • Facilitating meetings that will support other young men through informal peer groups encourage and distribute HIV Test kits & support, reducing barriers to HIV.
  • Organize and conduct community open-air meetings to promote the return to care and reduce barriers to returning to care.
  • Champion community activities in liaison with SASA!Faith Supervisors and Faith network supervisors and their structures of promoters and community volunteers in engaging grassroots communities in improving knowledge and attitudes around gender and HIV.
  • Train and support Male Champion promoters and volunteers in the development of bi-weekly action plans and reports.
  • Support District level Project Coordinator to facilitate exploration of a decentralized grassroots HIV testing, Care and Treatment location in densely populated market places in their respective T/As or other strategies to ensure more men and youth are retained in care.
  • Ensure reporting and referral network is active in their areas.
  • Participate in review meetings and M&E activities.
  • Ensure Monthly reports and Indicator Performance Tracking Tables are completed and submitted to the project coordinator for consolidation.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Rural development, Social work, HIV/AIDS, Theology, or related field
  • MSCE with 5 years practical experience in public health with communities.
  • Good working experience in Community mobilization and participatory rural appraisal.
  • Preferably men living with HIV with peer support experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer literacy.
