Job Description

World Relief is an international Christian NGO working in health, economic development, disaster response, and refugee resettlement. World Relief’s mission is empowering local churches to serve the most vulnerable.

USAID awarded World Relief Malawi the Strengthening Community Health Outcomes through Positive Engagement (SCOPE) HIV project which seeks to address gaps in HIV care and treatment in order to achieve 95-95-95 goals by increasing HIV education, case finding, referral, and the return to care, and by raising awareness and justice for children by engaging faith communities, men and youth, and girls and young women at the grassroots level. The agreement period for award is March 1, 2020 to September 30, 2022.

World Relief Malawi, through the SCOPE HIV project, collaborates with key stakeholders to increase access to and utilisation of HIV care and treatment services, increase faith and community-based capacity and engagement in HIV prevention, care and treatment, influence behavior change towards seeking HIV care and treatment and SGBV services and strengthened linkages and retention for HIV care and treatment of the target population in Machinga, Mangochi, and Lilongwe Districts.

World Relief Malawi therefore invites applications from interested and qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position:


Job title: M & E Assistants (3x Positions)

Reports to: Project Manager with dotted line to M&E Coordinator

Location: Lilongwe/Machinga/Mangochi


Key Responsibilities

 Reporting to the Project Coordinator with dotted line to the M&E Coordinator, the M&E Assistant is responsible for providing programmatic support and technical support to SCOPE HIV Project staff in program quality assurance, operations research.


Specific Functions

  • Collaborating with project staff to implement and maintain M&E systems following the national M&E protocol.
  • Ensuring timely submission of quality progress report for the project.
  • In liaison with M&E Coordinator and Information Management Coordinator, providing technical assistance and building capacities of project staff in all M&E related activities.
  • Providing guidance and support to all project staff in the implementation of monitoring tools, which includes but not limited to data collection, analysis and reporting on project indicators.
  • Collaborating with project staff and the District Councils in planning, designing and undertaking project evaluations and other programmatic assessments.
  • In liaison with M&E Coordinator, facilitate surveys, focus groups discussions, assessment tools and barrier analysis, or other tools as requested, in pursuit for program quality assurance, learning and evidence-based program management.
  • Support sub grantee organizations with required data collection and project monitoring as requested by the M&E Coordinator
  • Coordinate monitoring, evaluation and learning endeavors for intra-and inter organizations at District level.
  • Identify and inform project team of respective programmatic research findings, learning avenues and recommend possible action based on evidence resolve.
  • Maintain comprehensive programmatic database/management information systems (electronic and hard copy files of all project documents)
  • Supervise and collaborate with district councils on data entry and correlation and knowledge management protocols.


Qualifications and Experience

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Demographics, Public Policy, Public Health, or a related with 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience in Project implementation, research and program evaluations
  • Experience in principles and current approaches to participatory monitoring and evaluation
  • Well conversant of database management and interpretation.
  • High-level computer skills and experience using the following: MS Excel, MS Word, STATA, SPSS, R and or SAS
  • Excellent facilitating skills with strong communication skills in both English and local languages.
