Job Description

The College of Medicine (CoM) was established in 1991 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Its mission is to be an academic centre of excellence in the training of doctors and other health professionals in clinical service and medical research, responsive to the health needs of Malawi and its neighbours within the Southern African region. In pursuit of this mission, CoM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacancy:

Position: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Public Health/Environmental Health (2 Posts).

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Department, the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will be expected to contribute to the development, organization and delivery of teaching within the discipline area of public health and will also be required to participate in research and innovation activities.

The successful candidates will be offered 2-year contracts, renewable upon satisfactory performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

•  
•  Undergraduate student teaching and supervision
•  Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in public health.
•  Conduct demonstrations and tutorials
•  Participate in setting examinations
•  Participate in the assessment of students
•  Participate in curriculum development.
•  Research and Publication
•  Engage in writing research proposals and submit them for funding
•  Participate in conducting research in collaboration with other members of staff
•  Participate in dissemination of research results at conferences and in publications
•  Administrative Duties
•  Attend departmental, faculty, College and other meetings as required.
•  Coordinating academic programmes as and when required

Requirements

Applicants must have the following qualifications

•  A PhD in Public Health or any equivalent and related Degree
•  For the Senior Lecturer, a minimum of 5 years teaching experience at an accredited and reputable higher education institution
•  A record of scholarly work
