Job Description

The College of Medicine (CoM) was established in 1991 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Its mission is to be an academic centre of excellence in the training of doctors and other health professionals in clinical service and medical research, responsive to the health needs of Malawi and its neighbours within the Southern African region. In pursuit of the mission, the CoM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacancies:

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOTHERAPY

Position: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy (Blantyre- 2 positions)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Department, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake teaching, research, administrative and community engagement work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Among other duties and responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach physiotherapy modules and devising best learning approaches to students
• Carry out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of students’ academic work and providing academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities
• Provide academic input on existing and new courses and course development as appropriate
• Carry out research in field of specialty, consultancy and outreach activities
• Supervise students’ research projects.
• Provide academic leadership in the area of specialization

Qualifications and Requirements

• A minimum of Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy or related field.
• In addition to the Master’s Degree, all applicants will also be required to have a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised institution of higher learning with Credit or Distinction passes.
• Experience in teaching and research will be an added advantage.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of the subject area combined with a broad subject background enabling contribution to teaching and research.
• Those with proven record of ability to attract funding, conduct high quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high quality publications, or other research outputs in their relevant fields shall have added advantage.
