Job Description

Nkhoma University (NKHUNI) is looking for Lecturers with a proven track record of commitment, excellence in teaching, research, community outreach and resource mobilization to fill the following positions:

Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in:

  • Mathematics with Computing/Statistics
  • Computer Science
  • Geography
  • Education Foundations
  • Languages (Linguistics/Literature)
  • Human Resources
  • Accounting and Finance
  • Practical Theology and Church History

The Organisation
Nkhoma University is situated in the Central Region of Malawi with two campuses: Lilongwe where there is the University Office and the Faculty of Commerce and at Nkhoma where there are two Faculties: Faculty of Education and Faculty of Theology.

The University offers undergraduate programmes in various disciplines.

Functions and Responsibilities

The main purpose for the above listed academic positions is to teach at undergraduate and /or postgraduate levels, depending on the position.

The core elements of the jobs are as follows:

  • Teaching students and devising best learning approaches.
  • Assessing students’ academic work and undertaking students’ supervision
  • Carrying out research, consultancy, resource mobilization and outreach activities
  • Scholarly publishing
  • Participating in curriculum development and/or curriculum revision
  • Providing academic guidance
  • Mentoring new and junior generation of academics.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must have strong knowledge of the subject area combined with a broad subject background enabling contribution to teaching, learning, consultancy, outreach and research. Specifically, candidates must have:

  • Qualifications At least a Master’s Degree in the relevant academic discipline. Possession of a PhD will be an added advantage
  • Experience
    • Research expertise and experience in the relevant discipline
    • Supervision, teaching and assessment of students work at undergraduate and/ or postgraduate level at tertiary/higher education institutions
    • Proven experience in curriculum development around their fields of specialisation within a university setting
    • Ability to attract funding
    • Engagement with scholarly/professional communities
    • Ability to mentor junior staff and students
    • Participation in community engagement activities
    • Track record of scholarly publications in recognised peer reviewed journals
