Nkhoma Mission Hospital invites applications from suitably qualified and well experienced applicants for the position of Laboratory Technician (Grade K) tenable at Nkhoma Mission Hospital.
Position: Laboratory Technician (Grade K)
Performing routine and specialized tests in assigned area of the laboratory; interpret tests results and correlate laboratory findings with disease state.
Evaluating specimen adequacy for test performance.
Analyzing technical problems pertaining to specimen adequacy, laboratory data, and instrumentation; determine cause and rectifies problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
Calibrating instruments; performs and documents preventative and corrective maintenance, function checks, and repairs on instruments and equipment.
Performing, evaluating, and documenting quality control data and assure that patient results are not reported when tolerance limits are exceeded; documents quality occurrences in compliance with the quality plan of the department;
Advising the Manager of significant quality control/quality assurance issues.
Performing testing on proficiency testing samples.
Performing instrumentation troubleshooting to correct problems; refer problems appropriately to instrument vendors.
Reviewing, repeating and verifying laboratory results according to standard operating procedures and reporting critical (panic) values or unusual results in accordance with established policy.
Preparing reagents and solutions in accordance with established guidelines.
Participating in in-service education programs.
Maintaining confidentiality of patients, families and staff.
Attending all laboratory meetings and be an active member in discussions to upgrade the laboratory, analysis, safety and team environment.
Knowing and following procedure of obtaining emergency blood when required
Adhering to customer service standards of Hospital and department.
Reporting results accurately in health passports, inpatient records, afyapro computer system and laboratory records books.
Updating laboratory data records for internal and external auditing.
Ordering and recording usage of all consumable stock regularly.
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
Applicants should have a minimum of Diploma in Medical Technology obtained from a recognized training institution.
Registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
A minimum of two years’ work experience in the field.
Good interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills.
High degree of personal integrity.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
