Investment Officer/Securities Representative

Job Description

A new financial services Group intends to operate in Malawi and has applied for licensing of a Life Insurance Company, a Pension Services Company and an Asset Management company. In anticipation of being granted a license by the Financial Services Regulator, the company is looking for dynamic, career oriented persons to join it in various capacities as listed in this advertisement. Licensed trader on the Malawi Stock Exchange. S/he will use knowledge and skills to prepare, analyze and research on securities and submit proposal reports to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) aiming to optimize investment returns to clients while complying with the Regulatory laws and investment guidelines. This position requires Licensing by the Financial Services Regulator.


  • Support the CIO in managing the investment portfolios for clients according to set mandates.
  • Buying and selling securities in client accounts to maintain specific investment strategy.
  • Evaluating the performance of investment portfolios and ensuring compliance with standards provided by regulatory authorities, including conformance with investor disclosures, privacy laws, anti-money laundering requirements, and anti-fraud measures.
  • Working harmoniously with the Fund Custodians, Fund Administrators, and Corporate Trustees of the Funds and all stakeholders and all times in the best interest of the owners of the assets.
  • Shall cooperate with external Auditor and Internal Auditors on their audit work.
  • Shall assist the CIO to prepare Board packs, arrange for Board of Directors meetings as well as to prepare financial reports and investment reports to Board, Regulator, and Trustees.
  • Shall assist in embedding Risk management policies in the company.
  • Assist CIO in crafting and implementing a strategic business plan and budget and manage expenses within the budget guidelines.
  • Prospecting for new business.


  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Economics, Business Studies, and Accountancy or Finance. Professional certification such as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or proven progress towards certification will be an added advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years professional experience in asset management at technical or middle managerial level. Detailed understanding and practice of capital markets and the Regulatory environment is essential.


  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for efficient and professionally communication with employees, peers, executive leadership Customers, vendors and Regulator.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum or no supervision.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and targets in a high pressure setting.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good Commercial and business awareness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Candidate must be an energetic, tenacious, and enthusiastic team player with demonstrated adherence to high standards of ethical conduct.
