The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise. GIZ supports the Federal German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ operates in more than 130 countries around the globe. In Malawi, GIZ has been working for more than 50 years.
The global programme BACKUP Health supports state and civil society organisations in making efficient use of the resources provided by global financing mechanisms (GFATM, GAVI and GFF) to support their national health systems. BACKUP has staff presence in Germany, Malawi and 9 other countries in Africa and Central Asia. BACKUP is looking for a recent graduate to support the project’s work in Malawi as an intern.
The successful candidate will work closely with the BACKUP Malawi team and will also be able to collaborate and exchange with BACKUP’s international team across 10 countries in Africa and Asia and in Germany, as well as with the Malawi German Health Programme. The intern will benefit from mentorship and will learn about GIZ, about development cooperation in the Malawi health sector and about working in an international team.
Position: Intern For BACKUP Health
The Intern will receive a fixed-term contract for six months, without possibility of extension.
Review and provide comments on project proposals, terms of reference, budgets and report.
Research and summarise specific technical topics.
Document meetings and events by writing minutes, documenting participation, taking photos, etc.
Support meeting logistics by sending out invitations and organising venues.
Support administrative processes.
Support monitoring and evaluation of project activities
If needed, support production of communications materials, for example newsletter articles.
B. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Sciences or similar. Master’s Degree preferred.
Graduated / unenrolled from university course within past 6 months.
Previous experiences in the health sector desirable.
Very good English language skills in speaking and writing.
Strong social, interpersonal and communication skills; team player.
Organised and reliable.
Computer literacy, especially with MS Word and Excel and with virtual meetings.
